It stands for Combined Charging System.  Also know as level 3 DC fast charging.

Interesting find Moto7575 i bet you had a full basket of Easter Eggs when you were a kid too.

CCS is what my Energica has. Fast DC charging or slow j-1772 AC charging plugging into the bike using the same inlet thingy as it is "combined".


Also used in many cars, such as my 2022 Chevy Bolt.

CCS likes to see at least 150 VDC. For Zero to change to CCS, they would have to redesign just about everything electrical inside their bikes. Zero batteries are below 120 VDC even when fully charged.

One of the faults is for CCS DC-DC converter, my guess would be they are keeping the batteries the same and using this to change the voltage.  I believe Porsche do something similar but the other way round as their batteries are 800V but most CCS chargers can't go this high.

Those codes (60, 61, 62) are in the Owner's Manual for my 2020 SR/S, so Zero has been sitting on this for some time.

It could be that those codes are a leftover from the one year in the past (2013?) when Zero tried to use CCS as an extra cost option to charge their bikes using that system before they realized that most CCS chargers were not compatible with their 115V battery packs.

No that was Chademo which has it's own funky little plug.

And supports discharging, but EU chose CCS.  Not sure how Chademo did in USA though.

In the US, I think the only significant user of CHAdeMO was the Nissan Leaf. Nissan has since moved to CCS for other EVs, and when they stop making the Leaf I think that will be it for CHAdeMO here.

Which is pretty funny considering Energica announced ChaDeMo compatibility earlier this year!
