Energica / Re: Getting Energica Parts
« on: May 18, 2024, 11:08:19 PM »
I waited forever for some parts last year but the dealer had just not called me back to say the parts were in so I dunno whose fault that is (the part did have to come direct from Italy). The last conversation I had with Energica UK left me with the impression the company is still laser focused on getting finished Experias out the door after a stronger than expected order book and more issues ramping up production than expected.

I really hope that's eased up as they didn't announce anything new in 2023 for the first time in several years.

I just didn't spec keyless because I'm an IT professional and it honestly just doesn't feel like a worthwhile option.

Ribelles are great, what's gonna be a problem for you depends what your use case is. If you just wanna do like 100 or 150 miles on a sunny Saturday afternoon and *maybe* charge once then it's hard to fault. If you wanna tour with it then Energica's (all of them really) achilles heel is thermal management and you'll need to dial back the charge rate a little and make sure to leave enough time between charges for the battery to cool off a bit.

Energica / Re: Traction control and regen battle?
« on: May 08, 2024, 09:01:49 PM »
The TC and ABS are both indicated using the same lights. IIRC the bike uses a TC-like system to mimic ABS on regen so it's likely that's what you're seeing indicated.

I dunno about the aggressiveness though, that's kinda weird, most likely issue is a sensor problem. If it's not too much of a logistical problem I'd take it back to the shop and say "after you did some work this is happening" and see what they say.

As I heard it (from Transport Evolved) he told the head of the supercharger unit to lay some people off and they refused so he fired the whole department as an example.

Energica / Re: Used ego+: Within battery warranty - What to check?
« on: May 03, 2024, 01:58:12 PM »
If you're concerned about that you can do the above procedure to check your battery retains roughly the same capacity in its usable portion. If it's any solace my Ribelle is a '21 (EMCE model) and I've not noticed any capacity drop after 34k km.

General Discussion / Re: Potholes on the Hydrogen Highway

MCN ran an article a while back about how great Kawasaki's innovative solution to the volume problem was storing extra hydrogen in the panniers.

What else might I put in my panniers MCN? eh? What ELSE!!?

The main thing that annoys me about hydrogen is how it absolutely sucks the air out of any energy transition conversation when it comes to bikes. Motorcycle press are all the heck over hydrogen like it's the second coming and constantly putting BEVs down. MCN's reporting is particularly bad. It's almost as if that's the whole point of hydrogen.

The motorcycling world is not ready to face the ugly truth that this war is over and all their battles are pointless. Bikes will do what cars do and here in Europe at least electric has basicly won that fight.

Energica / Re: Charging Plug Indicator
« on: March 27, 2024, 10:35:23 PM »
latest '24 model Ribelle has the charging port angled, towards the low side of the bike while on the side stand, so that was improved. Would they revise the whole setup of the legacy bikes and invest in new tooling for a charge port on a different location?

Oh that's good news, I usually just hold the cable in there until the thing comes up.

I doubt they'd go to that level of effort given that they're not interested in significant developments of the Ego platform going forward.

I only have an Energica in my garage though I'd like to supplement that with a cargo bicycle. I get the bus/tram/train most places I can't walk to and keep the motorbike for doing fun stuff on rather than spoil it with boring daily stuff. I can't fathom why anyone who "loves driving" would want to ruin that for themselves by sitting in traffic all the time and the compromises it brings.

Also, the UK average for a motorbike is about 3000 miles. I've been averaging about 9500 so far with my Ribelle but I think this year might be less because the dreary weather has dragged on a bit long and thanks to <an entire rant about the investment world and its impatience and focus on number gaming rather than sustainable business> I've had to can all my trip plans this year.

You know what one of the most common comments I get is?

"I didn't know they made those"

Energica / Re: Energica will be Plug & Play at Tesla Superchargers?
« on: March 23, 2024, 02:02:28 AM »
I only use RFID cards when out of the country, nearly all the rapid chargers in the UK just take debit/credit cards and that's the way to go.

I dunno, I've never been a fan of Plug & Charge. I don't want to have to create an account and download an app just to charge my bike. I wanna rock up to a charger, tap my payment card and plug the bike in and then control the charge using an interface on the charger itself.

Could be a simple physics explanation or just the TC doing its thing or, everyone's favourite, a perceptual trick.

Anyone else looking at the state of the market at the moment and feeling like there's nothing exciting happening?

The finance on my Ribelle is up at the end of this year and I'd like to trade it in (something new for me, a great second hand deal for someone else) and while another, newer, Ribelle would be nice it's sort of sad that that's looking like the only option. I'm hoping this year brings some new options to market.

The S2 was a great entry into the market but by the time it came out it felt like it'd been around for years already and it doesn't exactly scratch the same itch (never mind the cost/quality issues with it). Energica have been super focused on Experia production and I'd really hope they'll break out and drop something exciting this year. Zero seem to be trying to weather the financial storms atm, and Kawasaki's lacklustre efforts aside legacy still seems totally uninterested.
