TorkMotors unveils the awaited Tork T6X

The Future is Electric : India’s first premium electric motorcycle
Tork Motors, makers of India’s first electric motorcycles unveiled the look of their first commercial motorcycle Tork T6X in the city today. Born on the race track and indigenously built as a culmination of seven years of extensive research and development, T6X has been developed ground up as a future of mobility for the smart modern urban commuter.
Clubbed with a host of exciting features, the T6X will have many firsts to its credit in the two wheeler segment like on board navigation, storage, cloud connectivity, full digital display, quick charge and superior acceleration. It will connect with customer’s mobile device through Tork’s app to communicate its health, range, service alerts and customised riding profiles. Apart from these, the T6X boasts of a range of advanced safety features like ABS, CDS, anti-theft, geo fencing and daytime running lamp (DRL) among others.
Tork continues to further its state-of-the-art electric motorcycle technology with their signature TIROS (Tork Intuitive Response Operating System), the intelligence that will power the T6X. Apart from analysis and compilation of data for every ride, power management, real time power consumption and range forecasts, TIROS also likes to learn how you ride.

Powered by lithium ion batteries, the T6X is engineered to travel at a top speed of 100 kmph, and runs 100 km on a single charge when plugged to a power socket. The battery can be charged upto 80% in an hour and full charge in two hours. Depending upon the usage of the bike, the battery life can last upto approximately 80,000 - 1,00,000 kms.

T6X will be introduced in three markets of Pune, Bangalore and Delhi in the first phase. It will be available in three exciting colour options and can be pre-booked now at an irresistible promotional price of Rs. 1,24,999 (Company selling price)

Here is another article regarding the Tork (interesting name).  Even for Indian prices, under the equivalent of $2000 USD for a modern electric motorcycle seems a little cheap to me if the company is going to make money long enough to stay in business.  I hope this isn't another bunch of internet vaporware that never actually gets built and sold in any numbers.

Based upon the difference between the price of an Indian-made Royal Enfield motorcycle sold in India and one sold in the U.S., I would estimate that the price of the Tork, if sold here, would double once it reached our shores to around $4000.  Could you even buy the individual components at that price?

I like the touchscreen idea, I hope they do a good job.

Their specs say "Brushless DC 6kW (8bhp) motor". Why D.C.? Zero and others use AC motors don't they?

Some brushless DC designs are technically also permanent magnet AC synchronous designs, like Zero's: http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Unofficial_Service_Manual#Motor (http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Unofficial_Service_Manual#Motor)

It could be any kind of brushless DC design: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brushless_DC_electric_motor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brushless_DC_electric_motor)

But when he took his bike to an auto show in Gujarat, 16 dealers signed on. “I realized the business had become serious. You can’t make 5,000 motorcycles with three people (Suraj Giri, the prototyping head, Sumit Shinde, the administrator, and Shelke). So, in January 2015, we said let’s scrap this and build a motorcycle that someone would actually love to buy.” In August 2015, Shelke and his team (of 26) began working on the T6X, the bike that is now available for pre-bookings on the Tork Motorcycles website—deliveries start in June. Tork has a small facility in Chakan and will begin full-fledged manufacturing soon.
