Hi everyone!  It was suggested to me to make a post and thread regarding firmware issues where we can hopefully amass information and experiences to find a permanent resolution.

My experiences are as follows:

November 2016 - firmware updated at Hollywood Electrics, LA. No issues

May/June 2017 - recieved letter from Zero corporate suggesting that a firmware update should be considered part of regular maintenance.

August 2017 - firmware updated at Dayton Motorsports, Vancouver.  Soc and range estimates become unreliable.

June 8, 2018 - firmware update at Daytona Motorsports, Vancouver.  Odometer stops counting.  Minor improvements noticed but it looks like underlying issues are still present.

I have not noticed any operational problems.  I am told from the logs there are no errors in the battery or any codes generated.

I am also told that Zero cannot roll back to previous versions by tech.  I wonder how they will problem solve this ODO problem without being able roll back.vOv

So some of the INFO that matters:

These problems are observed in BMS firmware REV 39+ for 2014-2016
                                                                                                               REV 17+ for 2017-2018

I could have reworded this more accurately as , the last stable BMS firmware observed are REV 38 for 2014-2016 and REV 16 for 2017-2018

MBB is unaffected or irrelevant.   SOURCE: DIGINOW

Primarily posted to provide information for the community.

Input, experiences, tips or corrections welcome!

Current resolution for myself would be a BMS firmware rollback to REV 38.  *I hope*😁. It is possible ODO is not firmware related... Taking the bike to the dealer in an hour.  Will update as more information becomes available.

Has anyone heard of these guys?  It's not a bad looking bike.

Apparently they are starting to take pre-orders.  And I was told the prices start as low as $5400 USD for a pre-order!  Which deserves a bit of a wow.  Not bad stats either.

What do you all think?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Rear Shock Spring Upgrade?
« on: September 08, 2016, 12:19:24 PM »
Hi all!

I have 2016 DSR and have built my own rack for my Mosko Moto side bags with a Givi top case.  I am 200lbs before gear.  I noticed the suspension to be a little soft, which is understandable due to the preset being for a 180lbs. rider.  I held off adjusting the suspension until I had all my luggage accessories sorted out.  I popped into a reputable motorcycle shop, (they do custom, race and adventure) to tap into their experience to adjust my suspension.  Long story short, it made a HUGE difference.  Like riding a new bike.

However, it was suggested that I might want to look for a stiffer spring for my rear shock(front as well, maybe) as I have "tapped out" its effective stiffness if I wanted to load down the bike with gear and/or a passenger.  So, my question is "has anyone done this?" and does this make sense for my scenario?  The logic seems sound to me and I couldn't find anything definitive from a couple of forum searches.

So, I am hoping to tap into the wealth of experience here on the forums for advice or point me in the right direction.  Web searches are proving frustrating.   What size or model spring am I looking for and what is the stock Rate(kg/mm or N/mm)?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Trail tail with a 2016 DSR

Thought I would share my new acquisition which so far seems to work pretty good.  133L should be more than enough room I hope :-D  Handles really good but I can certainly feel the added weight like... I have a trailer :-P

General Discussion / Hello from a new Zero DSR 2016 Owner!
« on: December 08, 2015, 11:19:02 AM »
Hello all!

I have been lurking these forums for a bit, reading and learning.  I have to say finding a community as large and as amazing as this was a huge help in taking the plunge buying my zero!
I live close to Victoria BC, Canada and already have had a great time enjoying some beautiful roads here.  I can't wait plan out some great trips with my DSR.

Furthermore, I should probably mention i'm completely off-grid with Solar Panels, etc.  It does prove to be a challenge to charge in the winter months, luckily I do have a backup generator which ironically I have only used a handful of times over the last 8 years or so.  Seems with my system I need to pull 60-65 amps DC to cover the charging requirements of my Zero from 50% to full.  I am happy to share what knowledge and experience I have.

Thanks to all of you for building this community!

Cheers!
