Title: Boot Guard piece
Post by: NervEasy on May 30, 2020, 02:28:25 PM
Hi All,

I have been riding my 2019 S nearly every day since I bought it late last year. The aluminum boot guard piece has been starting to wear through the anodization from the first week. My riding boots have aluminum dust on them where the contact that piece. It's just a normal leather shoe, so no other materials than leather are contacting that part.

The part is looking a bit sad now... So my questions are:

Is anyone else experiencing this?
Is there somewhere I can buy this part by my self (I live in Belgium so no AF1 as shipping is amazingly expensive :( )?
Any Ideas on coating that are more durable?
Are there beter aftermarket parts?

Thanks!

This is the part I'm talking about:

Mine are fairly scratched up too. They're not anodised, probably not clear coated either, just bare aluminium and probably quite soft. I'm probably going to give them a brushed finish when I can be bothered and maybe even put some of the left over tank grip material on them if I have enough.

All pretty normal on many brands. Most boots (and bike parts) are going to get scuffed up in use. The CF heel guards on my BMW are really scratched up, it makes the bike look like it is actually ridden.

The black aluminum is anodized, the bright aluminum I don't think is.

The bright aluminum is supposed to take the scuffs, it's a point of wear.

You could put some tool dip or tank pad material to take the wear of you wanted... I think there you want something that slides easily.

I use this for parts that can get scratched on bicycles and motorcycles (cables, dirt, shoes, ...):

Very nice protection, transparent, and easy to use.
