My documented 250mi day on the Zero (http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=5985.msg49759#msg49759) was aided greatly by a drop in elevation, some less-slow Elcon 2500 charging when I got to the destination, and then loitering in a Tesla sales location for 6 hours snickers charge on the return trip.

The trip to the Stinson Beach group ride and then staying overnight in SF Bay was probably just short of that at maybe 230mi or 240mi, for which I'd headed out from Tahoe around 1am and was restricted to RV parks 50Amp plug for 4kW charging rate as my J1772 kit was not engaging stations to provide power.

It is possible that my first 200mi+ long ride began naked and drunk in a desert hot springs back in July of 2016 without any fast charging capability at all. Later in the night I was pulled over by a cop and given a warning that my running lights were not functioning; the wires had gone crossed from stress on the 13mi of unimproved loose gravel road the night before.

Some of the trouble for doing a 250mi+ day is that you're going to want to get some rest at the destination. What the hell is so interesting more than 200mi away and you can get some rest at the end of it?

Also, notably there was that guy Shelby who showed up from Carson City NV to the Rumble Fish and Zero HQ group ride on a 2017 DSR + PowerTank without any fast charging... the very sort of disregard for proper planning that I really admire!

I'm planning a trip around the Ijsselmeer which is going to chime in at 236 miles, but I'll go the extra length to make it 250 ;)

Would I be allowed to enter the club with just 125 miles, but done on an FXS? ;-) Current max is 110, but I might do more than 125 soon. Half the range and half the charging power than you guys...

My best is 485 miles in one very long day on my 2014 ZF11.4.....it would have been 566 miles if it weren't for a misbehaving SCv1.

Hmm... 400km in a day?   Pretty sure I have done that on my way back from LA a few times.  Will document my trips this summer.

In 2014 I averaged 310 miles per day on a 6,000 mile trip around the east coast and Midwest. Last summer when I finished riding through all the lower 48 states I rode 525 miles in one day from Denver to Park city Utah.  My daily riding average was 410 miles.

Of course, all of that was after I crossed the US in August of 2013, just 2 months after the first time Terry crossed the country.

Challenge accepted. After four hours on a mountain bike this afternoon, I need some recovery time. Figure I can get some work done (starbucks or other wifi) on my laptop while recharging. This should be a great test using my two elcon chargers. Now just need to find a nice 250+ loop from/to Livermore, CA. Hmm ... Monterey aquarium and back is ~200 ...

I'm not in the club yet.  I might have done 150-200 one day.  I have not tried yet.  I would like a Dub-Jay setup.  I have 6.6 kW DigiNow.

Charging at 150 miles or freeway range/hour would be nice.

Hmm...

650 km in 16 hours (that's > 400 miles) - that was a ride from Stuttgart to Dille (and back again)
I posted in my (German) blog about this trip: http://www.christian-jog.de/2016/03/10/dille (http://www.christian-jog.de/2016/03/10/dille)

My record was >1000 km (620 mi) in 32 hours, although I did sleep for about 5 hours on this trip. It was part of the "king's stage" of the Wave 2015. See morimaxx' post.
He is also the one who is 'responsible' for me getting the Zero in the first place :-)
http://www.christian-jog.de/2015/06/27/wave-trophy-2015-die-koenigsetappe (http://www.christian-jog.de/2015/06/27/wave-trophy-2015-die-koenigsetappe)

I also document my route plans in this Google spreadsheet for you to browse:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HlLLxe9cMLtkm6aYvN6HpyRV5S93IpLejMkA-th5aq8/edit?usp=sharing (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HlLLxe9cMLtkm6aYvN6HpyRV5S93IpLejMkA-th5aq8/edit?usp=sharing)

This is how you feel after riding 300 miles without a good night's rest before your start ;-)

Next record would be the Iron Butt - but I'd need the DigiNow charger for that, @Brandon ;-)

Here is a google doc if you'd like to put the date and mileage of your longest ride for comparison (and fun).  (Use the tab that is named "250+ riders")

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/173oPGBbYVeTNMDyt4ydCRYqWsBRdPUPm2CCndmVfQjY/edit#gid=930939131

Now that more people are getting a digiNow Supercharger V2 we may have more competition out there!  That's great!  I can't wait to see, read, and hear about other people's long range journeys!  It used to be just Terry and me going long distances, but now 4 people have crossed the US.

257 miles today! Close to 12 hours, which was longer than I'd thought. Hit much heavy, slow freeway traffic coming home (yeah, I live in CA, where the weather is fantastic and the traffic is not).

Route: Livermore CA -> North Vasco (becomes CA 4) -> I 680 -> CA 12 -> CA 121.  Recharged in Napa garage; no cost! Then on to Silverado Trail -> Geyserville, and home by way of 101 and I 580.

Stopped in Petaluma for 2nd (and I thought final) rechage in city garage ($). Curiously, the ChargePoint cut out at just under an hour, at 65% SOC. ChargePoint notified me of this by text message (I was eating lunch) and I pannicked: "someone's messing with my bike!" Turned out not to be the case; have no idea why this happened.  After two tries I couldn't get the charger to re-start (OK, it did once, for about five seconds), so I gave up. Figured I had enough charge to get within maybe 10 miles of home. Made a brief third recharge stop at the Juvenile Justice Center (near Lake Chabot).

I am *SO* looking forward to faster charging and greater range.

Had to look up timeline in order to find this. My longest trip in a day was 287 miles from Clear Lake, CA on Hwy 20 west to Hwy 1 and back to Bay Area. I had 6.6 SC v2 back then so charging took a while.

I've done over 250 miles today (270 to be exact, or 435km in normal people units ;) ) Took me 14 hours to do, including 2 charging sessions of 1.5 hours so 11 hours net driving time. Returned home with 35% left so used 265% of my 12kW net capacity (charged to 97% both times). I'm still working out the metrics, had my Garmin GPS on the steer for navigation and the thing also logged the entire trip.

*edit*
Moving average 46,2km/h (28.7mph), riding time 9.5 hours, charging time 3 hours, used ±31kWh. Apparently I lost 1,5 hours emptying my bladder and waiting for open bridges in Friesland ;)

Notes to self: Maximum charging current was 72 amps so adding another stack of FPS'ses will blow the fuse. Also, need a throttle lock of some kind because a sleeping hand sucks bigtime ;)

I did a 250mi+ day this week, riding from Kings Beach CA to Scotts Valley CA. I had a late start about 9am and arrived at 7pm. There were some charging hiccups i.e. waiting in Tracy for government employee who was charging county owned and operated EV on their hour long lunch break with the only two public chargers around. Some of that route was brand new for me which contributed to the delay.

From Scotts Valley CA I wanted to adventure out and find the "Presentation Center" and so tried to give it a go https://api.plugshare.com/view/location/9817

Which led to a series of anxiety-inducing decisions, riding in the rain on a rural highway system that had been freshly cleared of mudslides and road closures, losing traction every few switchbacks.

Entry point I think was Zayante Rd, then Skyline for a while until I saw some really stern warnings that it was absolutely definitely closed except to local traffic, for which I cut over onto Black Road and eventually made my way out onto CA17 north.

Unbelievable;  where the heck did you run into rain at this time of year???
Yeah, roads around here are total c--p after winter storms. Several favorite roads (for both motor and bicycle)
remain closed for indefinite periods of time.

Carson to Vegas on Sunday, 433 miles and I returned yesterday, slightly different route, 440 mi on a 2017 DSR.  Central Nevada is tricky with 100+ miles between, well, anything.  Longest stretch was Bishop, CA to Beatty, NV for 150 mi section that crossed 3 mtn ranges.  I was at 0% for the last 9 miles.

Title: Re: 250 mile club
Post by: swavess on June 02, 2017, 08:06:18 PM
It was with the power tank.  Without it, I'd recommend going down 95.  The other route, the section on 395 from Bishop over 168 to 95, while being awesome, is just too far.  There are absolutely no towns, RV parks, houses or anything once you leave 395 until you hit just north of Beatty.  Also, the headwinds can be brutal there, which really reduces range as well as the mountain ranges that are crossed.
I've added some RV parks and various plugs in Yerrington, Hawthorne and Lee Vining.  Only 1 RV park charged me a few bucks on the way down and only 1 on the way up.  All were friendly.  Basically don't skip a charge opportunity on 95 cuz the next town is always about 100 mi away with absolutely nothing in between.

Good Morning
I did a ride from Las Vegas NV to Beatty NV a few weeks ago. This is the first leg of Nevada's Electric Highway.
I rode from my home to The charger that was the furthest North that I knew of. From there it was 116.2 miles
to the Chargepoint station in Beatty. I arrived with 5% charge ( 8 Miles ) showing.
I charged using the on board charger and a QuiQ charger. Walking around town and napping while charging was going on.
I then rode back to Vegas. I charged for a little at on the way back at a school in a town called Indian Springs until someone
decided that I shouldn't be there.  Once home, I charged up a bit and did some more riding around town. While not sure EXACTLY
how many miles I rode, but it was over 250, and in the same day 238+ Just there and back. Didn't think about this thread or I would
have been more precise. 2016 SR 13KW with 2017 Locking DSR "Tank". I didn't care for the S or SR color options, didn't want the
duck bill fender, so ordered just the tank while I decided on what to do for front and rear. I like the way it looks so much that
I am planning to keep it this way. I have photos, but, can't seem to get them small enough to upload. Can email if interested.

So, a 2016 SR ZF13.0 no additional battery?  What do you remember was your average speed mph for that 116.2mi leg of the trip?  I have a 2016 DSR ZF13.0 and have considered trying this adventure but I thought I might wait for a positive report of someone having made that trip with a similar performance bike firstly ^_^

I have been riding / driving EVs for about a decade and have become VERY good at HyperMiling.
The ride out Started around 1:40 in the Morning to avoid as much traffic and police as possible.
The road was 70 MPH. MY speed was mostly between 45 and 50. The last 20 miles or so, I dropped
down to between 25 and 35. The Ride back was in the middle of the day with road construction and stop and
wait. Speed was mostly under 55. That was why the stop in Indian Springs. I was concerned that I
would not make it back. Most of my "range" adventures would not be considered a "FUN" ride, but,
enjoyable to me. Around town with 35 to 45 mph average speeds, I am able to easily reach 200 miles.
This is taking as much advantage of regen as possible. Since this was going to be a highway ride,
there would be little of that so I kept speeds painfully low. My ride to and from work is 6 miles of
35 and 45 mph city street with 20 stoplights between my house and the freeway, then, 13 miles of
freeway, ( usually around 55 mph ) then another mile at the end to work. This uses under 15% of the battery from full.
Today I was in a bit of a hurry to work and was going 65 to 75 on the way. 55 on the way home. 42 miles round trip
put me home with 71% battery and 102 miles of projected range. This was hiding behind the touring fairing TO
work and 55 mph sitting up on the way home.

Count me in. My Daughter is about 230 miles away and usually I take the Zero to see her for dinner, so 460 return. One trip I did some running around before dinner, and I thought I'd cracked 500 miles in a day, but I grabbed a coffee and a safety charge that I didn't really need and I realised later that I'd done just over 500 miles in just under 25 hours, so not a 'day'.  I guess I could to 500 in a day, but I'd have to tell her that I'm cutting dinner short for a completely weird reason.

All on a 2014 DSP  11.4, two elcons and no power tank.

500mi in 24 hours on a mostly stock base Zero platform bike is quite the accomplishment. Just change whatever it was to km's and you're good  :D

This is awesome! It's so fun to see so many people riding longer distances now.  Keep the stories coming!

I made a little over 400km in 1 day riding from my home in Switzerland (Olten) across the little Lichtenstein to Austria and back. This with the Zero Charge Tank charging up in 3 Sessions of about 1 to 1.5hrs.  So you can add me too on that list 8)

500km with a chargetank are possible, but iwould be a long day :)

On my 13 day tour in August I had a 263 mile day from Delaware Water Gap, PA to White River Junction VT. Charged 3 times that day before getting to hotel, although could have gotten away with only 2 charges.

2015 Zero DS with 2 Elcon 2500s.

I'm sorry, KrazyEd.  Did you claim to have ridden 250 miles in 24 hours?  I saw a claim of 238 in one day as part of a longer trip.

Is it on one charge, or is it ok to do 2 125mile trips within 24h, with one or two chargers?

I left my house a little after midnight. Rode 6 miles to the charger at the furthest end of Vegas to top off. Rode 116 miles to Beatty, then, 130 miles back to home
which included a couple mile detour in Indian Springs to find an outlet to get enough juice to get home. After returning home, I recharged the SR for a bit while
I recharged myself with a nap. Then went out again to do errands around town. All in about 20 hours on the same calendar day. I was unaware of the 250 mile club,
or, I would have kept better notes. I took speedometer photos when I arrived in Beatty showing 5% remaining and again when I returned to Vegas, showing 10%
remaining. Unfortunately,  I did not do the odometer readings. Now that I know what I can do, more long trips are probably in my future, especially since it will finally
be cooling off in the next few weeks. If not included now, I will keep better notes for future rides.

You're taking this too seriously : - )

If you claim you did it, I put you on the list. : - )

Adding remmie to the list, moving the list to the first post so people don't have to scroll down past the discussion to see it.

As long as they are in a timespan of 24h. Otherwise that list would be a whole lot emptier ;D

250 miles in a day means, to me, 250 miles total travel in 24 hours, any segments you like.

But please, the claim in one sentence, not a long story where I have to add things up and try to figure out if you are really claiming to have done it or not.

Don't get me wrong, I like the story, but I also need the claim to be clear.

Tote board's light! Doug S traveled 268 on 9/16/2017. That's a SLOW way of getting around, but it's better than not doing it at all.

We should probably start a 400 mile club for single day.

Likely several ways would work (if you want to be able to prove it)

1) Use chargepoint stations if you can as they track when and how much you charge on your account and you can access it online.
2) Use a GPS device which tracks your path
3) Use pictures of charging stations with time stamps showing bike at start / end of charging
4) Combination or all of the above.
