Hey awesome!!  Glad you made it.  A few car drivers have asked me to move when I'm charging, too.  I tell them it'll only be another 10min and they get really confused.  It's like nobody knows electric motorcycles have been around for 10+ years!

How did the pickup go, Apollo?? What's the bike like to ride long distances? We're dying to know how your trip home went!

Hey Apollo, did you ever get your Strike R?  If so, how is it?  We're dying for videos!

So everything is exactly just as waterproof as a normal motorcycle?  Which all warn against power washers.

Just to clarify.. 3 years ago Richard told me the AIM racing dash wasn't waterproof (it's usually used in cars).  This was a concern because I just replaced my Zero's dash for that reason.  The bigger issue was that there wasn't a sealed battery box, or a battery box at all, so all the individual cells were open to the elements.  I'm sure things have improved since then, but the bike wasn't ready for rainy day rides at that time.  I'm excited to see photos and videos of what the bikes look like now to see if any of those improvements were made.

I should make a proper follow-up video to explain why I didn't follow through with my Lightning order, but you're right that the ABS laws.  The build quality wasn't that great when I did my test ride, and nothing on the bike was waterproof, which was also a huge red flag as it rains 90% of the year in New Zealand.  Then covid hit and I wasn't able to fly back to the US to ride the Strike R.  Long story short, Energica had everything I wanted and more, but I still really enjoyed riding the Strike and I'm looking forward to your videos on it  ;D

that sounds like a good plan, but at what speeds are you running?

I'm stuck at ~65mph the whole time but there's a lot of elevation here, so I'd still say 100 miles is a realistic gauge for stops.  You could look for stations 80 miles away and see how much you have left, as a safe starting point.

I find myself stopping every 100 miles pretty organically, so that's about the range I plan between charging stations.  That way you get there with 15-20% so you're not freaking out too much, and you can still unplug at 80-90%.

440 miles in 11.5hrs on a 13.4kWh Ego, but I've been meaning to try that same ride again on my new 21.5kWh Ribelle.  I think I can do it with only 3 stops.

You're right that "better" is mostly subjective, but there are a few things Damon claims that I'd love to see in person:

They're lighter, more powerful, have better range, and their batteries are liquid-cooled so they could potentially charge faster as well.

If they can prove the bikes hit all these points, I'd consider them "better".

And to be clear, Energica flew out LOTS of journalists and people involved in motorcycle news.  I'm just one of the few electric motorcycle focused youtubers who happens to own 2.5 Energicas, so I guess it was worth it for them to send me over.  I'm offering to fly myself out to shoot a video on a Damon, because the one they released wasn't what anybody wanted.

"Too close to Energica" because I own one?  ::)

If there's a better electric motorcycle out there, I'll buy it.  That's why I sold my Zero.  A few months ago I was half-seriously considering buying a Lightfighter track bike.  I love Energica (the bikes and the company) but I'm not brand loyal.  I have some gas bikes now so I'm not even electric motorcycle loyal anymore haha.

Flights are expensive but they'd be worth it to make a proper Damon review video.

I hope there's more to it, like an in-depth article comparing this to other gas and electric bikes.  Two minutes with barely any footage of the journalist riding it isn't enough.

If anybody from Damon is reading this, I'm offering to fly myself over and make a video for free if you'll let me!

I try to stay supportive and optimistic of every company that wants to build an electric motorcycle.  I put down (and lost) my deposit on a Mission R.  I put down (but got back) my deposit on a Lightning.  Nothing about Damon felt any different, or convinced me that putting down a deposit on a third fantasy bike was a good idea.

Until they have a showroom with demo bikes to ride and proof that they can service and support all the bikes they make, it's not worth even getting excited about.

In your vid you mention a German company offering frame sliders that do not require drilling the frame (I was internall shuddering when I saw you doing this :o).
Could you please reveal the name?

Sooooo the other ones are sold in the Netherlands (oops, sorry!) and they actually require cutting your fairing.. which seems insane, but here's a link to those:

Haha thanks man!  Somehow I couldn't find this thread to update it.  I thought an admin had deleted it.  Anyway, hope this video helps people!  ;D
