General Discussion / Re: 2018 U.S. Motorcycle Thefts

lol, guys.. The stats include MOPEDS... and these scooters dont have the same brand sales as motorcycles.

taotao is extremely popular as a moped.. its a "brand name" for the cheap chinese bikes. they far outsell yamaha Zumas and Honda Ruckus (and metro), etc.   maybe even combined. not sure on that.

Also, the reason SC is on that list is they dont require registration/tags on mopeds... right up until this year. Now that they do, we can expect those numbers to drop a bit for SC as these kids realize they cant just steal peoples scooters and ride them without getting pulled.

What I'm saying is that there could be cases where it is not clear where the problem has originated and that could lead to problems claiming warranty. Say the battery would have degraded faster than expected after 4 years and would normally be replaced under warranty by Zero, Zero could make the argument (and most automotive companies in The Netherlands would) that fast charging by a third party supplied charger exacerbated the problem while Diginow doesn't believe that it did. Under the current terms on the Diginow website this can cause a discussion and where does that leave me as a customer?

In the USA it leaves you 100% covered by Zero under the magnuson moss warranty act. Short version is, in the USA the manufacturer needs to PROVE the aftermarket part or modification did all the damage to deny the claim.
As a USA company with lots of people on here in the USA, and superchargers sold primarily in the USA until recently... its been a non-issue. You are correct that they can treat you differently in other countries, but I dont know the law where you are.

Parts, Mods And Hacks / Re: Sequencial LED switchback turnsignals
« on: December 31, 2018, 06:28:56 PM »
Very Cool.
I have similar sequential lights on my the rear of my Hypermotard... Not as cool as yours though, I dont have the running lights or brake lights. Wish I saw those first. The more brake lights, the better.
The hyper was difficult, it doesnt use a flasher, so it was hard to get aftermarket lights to flash properly. I cheated by using sequential LEDs and a good size cap to cover for it flashing too fast for the full animation.

One of the WORST habits I've seen is people stopping with both feet flat on the ground.  I think this is the reason so many people (and I'll exclude novice riders here) look for bikes they can flatfoot.  This is NOT the way to stop and remain stopped on a motorcycle!

Exactly.

...I've been running C19/C20 since they handle more amps than C13/C14 for my inlets...
Same amps, different voltage convention 125/250 vs 250? I do not think the connectors care it would depend on the plastics and expected heat rise until they melt and fall apart what amps?
According to this -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEC_60320 , only put 10 amps through a C13/C14 and 16 amps through a C19/C20.

Even if you find a perfect, large wire C19/20 connector cable you cant run 15a through them non-stop... after a couple hours they start to get warm. keep going for a few hours and you will get it warm enough for the cable connector to become putty-like inside... get real unlucky and it will melt into your bikes connector.

Alta Motorcycles / Re: Not good!! Alta Motors ceases operations
« on: October 29, 2018, 09:35:47 PM »
In a nutshell... they would have been fine except Harley said they wanted them. So they didnt look for money (remember they're expanding, so they need investor income)

Then Harley backed out. At the last minute. With no real warning.

Since they were counting on that Harley money, they didnt have a backup plan... and now they're out.

random update.
I shoved this in the nose/fender on the front of my Hypermotard.
It works flawlessly and I love how it gives me the green turn arrow near my house. It also lets me leave work without waiting for a car to open the gate.

Now that its installed in one bike, I'll have to buy another to be portable again.

« on: September 28, 2018, 06:14:11 PM »
If you recall from earlier in this same thread, they sold-out of the normal S models... including their batteries.
And of course they sell them here at home first and quickest.
I dont think they ever intended to sell the SR batteries in the base S, but with the shortage at the end of the yearly cycle it became required.

I would expect next year that they all get the big battery.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Where do you carry your registration?
« on: September 28, 2018, 05:30:05 PM »
I don't carry any of it. Its all in their computer system anyway.

They now have nice juicy government contracting... so even if their dealers all stop carrying them, they will still be around in some capacity for a number of years.

Its just a marketing ploy to get you in the door.

Can SCv2 be mounted in another spot on the bike? Although belly pan is a convenient location, doesn't this heat up the battery during charging, same as the stock charger? Many people have said the stock charger is not installed in a good location, for this reason.
Could SCv2 be mounted on the rear-top rack, such that it doesn't heat up the battery, and the charger has much better air cooling too? For me (and maybe others), I only use my Zero for commuting. If/when I have a need for fast charging on the occasional road trip, I may want to ability to install it for the trip, and remove them when I get back home. My need for fast charging would be very rare.

The Diginow has an airgap that the stock charger does not have, and it runs for less time... so I think the overall heating to the battery is less than stock, not more.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: 2013 OEM charger as bridge to DigiNow
« on: September 07, 2018, 09:12:12 PM »
I think that the 2013 Charger has the wrong voltage.

What happens when you reset the BMS?
https://zeromanual.com/wiki/Unofficial_Service_Manual#BMS_Reset

You can also check your Batteries and much more with an USB-TTL Cable

https://zeromanual.com/wiki/How_to_build_a_cable_to_access_the_MBB

2013 should still be set to the 116.2-ish voltage that all 2013 and newer bikes are... thats about 4.15v per cell.

Meanwells make great chargers. You wont have to worry about them.. your stock charger cutting off the charge early may be something to worry about though.
You probably need to bridge the signal pins (I forget what ones) so that the bike "sees" an off board charger and leaves the contactor closed.
