Title: Fuel for life
Post by: turbojet on May 02, 2016, 10:40:59 PM
Looks like Zero just extended their fuel for life offer for the month of May.  I just purchased a DSR because of this offer as it makes the final price much more reasonable.  ;D

It's a good deal. Hope they start sending out the April Visa cards soon ;-)

Anyone got their April Fuel For Life Visa card yet? I _need_ that laptop.

Can I ask when you bought your bike?

I wouldn't be surprised if this became an effective permanent discount. ie, even if it expires in may, good chance that you will be able to negotiate a discount with a dealer in the $500-1000 range.

And next year, we'll see the discount incorporated into a new MSRP.

Great idea.  It really underscores the affordability of electricity.

I ride ~100 Whr/mile and I'm on $0.15/ kWhr rates, so I only get 55,000 miles, but that is a lot for any motorcycle.

$1000 / ($0.15/kWh * 100 Wh/mile) = 67k miles, no? Or is your 100 Wh/mile before AC/DC conversion loss?

I haven't checked the AC consumption, but DC I typically average 60-80 Wh/mile. I suspect even after AC conversion it is significantly more efficient than my 2012, despite being heavier and MUCH more powerful.

I rode the other day out to 79 miles and had 37% battery remaining, in the type of riding where my 2012 would have had about 70-80 miles of range.

I ordered my bike April 1st and picked it up April 9th.  Zero Motorcycles e-mailed me May 4th.

I'm also working through California's rebate process.  They finally just got back to me a few days ago to validate information.

I calculated the figure with 88% charge efficiency.  I did mesure it once with a Kill-O-Watt and post about it, but me and the Forum found the kWhrs indicated on the bike inaccurate.

The US Post Office left me a note about an attempted delivery from Zero Motorcycles so it appears that Zero is delivering on the gift cards.

Doesn't do me much good at the moment as I am out of the country for the rest of the week.   :(

Anyone have predictions for what will happen when May is over?  I'm getting ever closer to pulling the trigger on a  bike, but this month really doesn't work for me (about to move cross-country).  Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but it seems logical to me that they'll either extend the offer or have a new deal that's of equivalent value.  If they don't, I might just kick myself so hard for missing out that I postpone even more to wait and see what 2017 brings and/or if 2016s get discounted as the model year ends.

Got my card today.  Honestly, I wasn't even expecting it.  I had ordered my S at the end of March and when I heard about the "Fuel for Life" Incentive in April I figured it was just my luck to miss THAT boat.  Maybe because I didn't actually take delivery until April?  Who knows... I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth.  Thank you, ZERO!

I'm not at all happy with myself for picking up my bike on March 20th!  Don't get me wrong, I love the bike (DSR), but I could have waited another couple of weeks for 1K.  Oh well, predicting the future has never been my strong suit!

If you bought an Apple II when they first came out, you would have spent thousands of dollars.
You would have upgraded to improved computers along the way and years of enjoyment / productivity.
Or, you could have waited for the " Perfect " computer, and still be waiting. Might be a bit late now,
but, if you didn't ask dealer to contact Zero about some other sort of compensation ( parts, service, accessories )
maybe something could be worked out.

You are correct.  I've been waiting for a couple of years for the battery technology to level off a bit, and I felt the '16 models seemed like a great place to jump in.  No regrets on the purchase or the decision.  I did have my dealer ask for me on any possible consideration, no dice...

The analogy doesn't hold up.  The reason its used in tech is because tech changes so rapidly that its pointless to wait for the 'next big thing' as the 'next big thing' is a few months away.  It has nothing to do with the cost or discounting.

I lucked out on my order (the dealer was unaware of it until -after- I bought my bike) but if I knew it was coming I may of jumped to the SR instead of the S.

How does Zero know who to call or mail it to? I don't remember any of those things being on my purchase agreement at the dealership. Just my name and email address. Did any of you have to contact Zero directly about it? Just want to make sure I'm not missing something since I think my dealer won't be as proactive as they could be about getting me my $1000.

Analogy holds up just fine. Today I can pick just about any laptop and it will work for almost all basic needs. You dont need the latest and greatest to do the newest software.
over the last few years, I could just say "pick the laptop/PC you like, they're all good enough" and then use them for a years until they break.. not because they're obsolete.

It just took a good 30 years after the apple II.

As I stated above, I did nothing.  I actually ordered the bike in March and simply assumed I wouldn't be getting a gift card since the offer wasn't extended until April.  I was pleasantly surprised when I got the card in the mail.  I don't know if the dealer had anything at all to do with it because I never discussed it with them either.

How do you get real money off the bloody $1000 debit card anyways?  My bank said it was declined for cash advance, and the support phone number is some script reading support farm in India. Right there in the terms provided with the card it says you will be charged a $5 fee to have the balance mailed to you as a check;  The support drone says to me "Sir, that is not true, you are lying because that is not true";   I ask to be put with a manager and the drone says there is no manager, good bye, and puts me on endless hold (I gave up after 2 hours on hold of crappy music).

Super pissed off about having a $1000 credit that will expire by way of bullshit fees over time, instead of cash or an ACH compatible transfer to a checking account. The worst is that I call the support number and get some fucking script reading monkey who calls me a liar and transfers me to endless hold music.

Has anyone been able to cash out this?  HOW?   Thanks for any advice.

I read the terms and once I realized there was no way to simply cash it out, I just used it for every day expenses (after treating myself to a brand new helmet).  I'm down to about $60.  By the way, the fee doesn't kick in unless you still have a balance left in a year.

Buy  money order at Walmart or USPS. This card should have a PIN. If not, call a number on a back and set a PIN.

The card which I received cannot have a PIN number and says "NO CASH VALUE".

Since 2013 anti money-laundering laws went into effect it would be illegal to buy money orders with this as a form of payment. USPS certainly won't accept it. I tried many merchants and banks but not Walmart.

If it says debit, and it's a Visa, it will have a PIN. There is a law passed few years ago that all the debit cards Visa or MC must have PINs.
I do it on a regular basis.
NO CASH VALUE means you can't withdraw the money from an ATM, but you can do debit transactions, like buying MOs.

Anyone have difficulty getting their Fuel for Life card?  I purchased my 2016 DSR from my local dealer 4/30 during the original offer.  I picked the bike up 5/16.  I had yet to hear from Zero last week so I called them and they acted like they had no record of my purchase.  Asked me who my dealer was and told me they needed my VIN to confirm the purchase.  Since these bikes are sold on an order only basis for the most part I would think they would know who purchased the bike they sent to my dealer.  So I texted them the VIN a week ago and have heard nothing further.   :-\

There is no such law in the United States.  Whether a debit or credit card has a pin or not is left entirely to the issuing bank (while visa is now a public company - its largely owned and controlled by the banks).  WalMart is actually suing Visa to force them to require a PIN on debit cards.  The matter is still stuck in courts.

Ask the dealer you purchased from if and when they sent in the warranty registration form. Alternatively I think you can call Zero Motorcycles up and verify whether or not they have received a completed form for your bike.

Durbin amendment to Frank - Dodd act requires all the debit cards to have PIN. This is starting Aprl1st 2013. If the card says debit on a front, it has a PIN as well. If it has a PIN, you can do debit transaction like buying MO. I do it on regular basis. All Visa/MC/Discover debits has a PIN. Call a number on the back of your card and set the PIN, then go to USPS or Walmart and buy a MO. It works.

Let's start with type of the card and issuing bank. I don't have this card, but if you do, let me know what is it. If it's Visa, MC or Discover, it will have a PIN.  Here is an example of visa gift card which I usually buy:

Great! I purchased my DSR 4/30/2016 and have yet to receive my Fuel for Life card despite calling them multiple times.  Each time they act like they don't know whom I am but I assume the dealer lets them know who is purchasing their bikes for warranty purposes. The last time they asked me to text my VIN to them for some reason.  I'll keep trying.

I called Zero too. The dealer did not send it in until 9-9-16 even though I bought it 8-30-16. Luckily the bill of sale showed the Aug date so my rebate will be on the way. Are they still offering a tax rebate for power supplies and equipment?

Well, for us in the Netherlands the rebate goes *really* quick. Entered the data 09-29, got a reply 03-10, recieved the money 04-10!
And we get money on a bank account, no Visa card!

I received a gift card from Zero for their August promotion as that's when I bought my bike, and it arrived in early October.  Unfortunately they chose a bad vendor to produce their VISA Debit gift cards.  It says to activate it online at incentivecardlab.com but that web site is down and calling the number to activate it works but leaves the card unusable.  I activated my card by phone and then tried to use it and it was declined.  Called back to customer service and they said yes the site is down permanently and is no longer usable, and they had to manually update my address because it gets validated by zip code or something.  Maybe it will work on my next attempt but who knows.
