Buy Sell Trade / Old commuter screen for free
« on: October 03, 2022, 05:11:15 PM »
Hey all,

Just found my old commuter screen and since I have no need for it it can go on to the next one. It's well used over 3 years but with a little tlc it could look pretty nice I guess. First one to pay for shipping can have it. Given away as-is in the picture so no hex mounting bolts, but they are sourced easily. My location is western Netherlands, so you can see if the shipping is worth it ;)

Energica / Ribelle in Woubrugge
« on: June 12, 2022, 08:14:49 PM »
We had to stop for an open bridge in Woubrugge, and when it closed a Ribelle came from the other side. I was pretty excited to see another Energica, wanted to say hi ;)

Energica / App that shows nearby chargers
« on: June 08, 2022, 03:42:02 PM »
I took the Ribelle for a spin the other week through Europe a bit, and used ABRP for the planning to the area I wanted to explore. Since I planned ahead, I had a Garmin Oregon on the handlebars with a POI of all DCFC stations of the area and scouted the surroundings online to find DCFC beforehand. But I like to deviate from my plans if needs arise, like I'm done riding for the day or I see a stretch of road I'd like to explore a bit. Now Energica has stopped including the bluetooth option on the bikes, I can't use the function of having the nearest chargers on screen which would be a nice feat when wandering about. Is there an app for that? Like a map that scrolls as you move with the chargers on the screen? Or could ABRP do that?

To be clear, I'd like a moving map showing chargers, not stop to check if there are any near.

Energica / A tour of the Eiffel, or 1040 km in 2 days
« on: May 28, 2022, 02:21:56 AM »
After my round of the Ijsselmeer which was 400+ km's, I had the opportunity to take the Ribelle for a spin and take two days for it. So I set off to the Eiffel region, specifically to the "Route of a thousand bends". Didn't count them all but boy, was it close.

Started thursday morning with 85% charge (Forgotten to top it off)  and charged a total of  2 times to make the 352km's to the start of the route, all highway. The last charger before the route started was blocked by cars, the next one 25 km along the way was taken as I approached it so I granny charged until I could reach the last charger before the route started.
The route itself, what can I say... If you like curvy (Who doesn't ;) then this is your cup of tea. Beautifull small roads going up and down the hillsides in the Eiffel region, topping out at 600+ meters and bottoming out at 260 meters. Especially a part that goes through Luxembourg is crazy, very narrow roads with 15% hairpins on both the ways up and down. If you have the chance, drive the route: https://www.routeyou.com/nl-de/route/view/5631993/toermotorroute/1000-bochten-eifel . There are DCFC chargers in Prum and Daun, so if you start at Prum you can reach the end point with just one chargestop.

I did not completely finish the track because it was getting late and I had not made reservations for a hotel. Which was a mistake; the ascention day weekend is notorious for the amount of people, and motorcycles, to visit the Eiffel region so I called just about all the hotels en route but no luck. I decided to visit an old love of mine: Bastogne in the Belgian Ardenne region. It's a nice little town with a bustling city center and a bit off-track for the biker boys so tried my luck and ended up in the most 60's hotel of em all, but it was clean, the beds were good, and they served a fine collection of Belgian beers to end a good day riding.

Day two started with charging up for the home stretch, still had to make about 350km before reaching home. Since I didn't feel like sitting at a DCFC at 22:00 at night for half an hour I decided to charge the next morning. During the fast charge at the Seat dealer in Bastogne it started drizzling and when I was just on my way it turned into full-on rain for about an hour. I use my phone on the handlebars and charge with a cable... Mistake 2. When the cable gets wet the phone says it cannot charge anymore and just dies. Nice. Luckily I had a backup-GPS with me, my trusty Oregon 600, for which I had quickly printed a handlebar clip and which I loaded with a generated POI of all CCS chargers in Europe (Well, almost). Since the device can navigate I could continue my journey and went to Namur via secundary roads where I charged at the very friendly BMW-dealer who asked me all about the bike. From there on, I decided to go via secundary roads to Maastricht, because the rain radar predicted no rain there so I set off to Liege, and then Maastricht. The rain ended as soon as I left Namur, and because the sun came out everything dried quickly making the phone work again when I was charging in Maastricht. Because of the time I rode the home stretch (202km from Maastricht) on the highway in very strong headwinds making consumption a thing but by charging to 85% both times made it just in time for a late dinner ;)

Stuff I learned: Book a hotel room in advance, you'll have a place to stay and a goal to reach when you're done for the day. Also, don't go blind on the apps. Sometimes it states a charger as available when it is not, sometimes somebody just drives up as you get there, sometimes the 8 (Yes, EIGHT) CCS chargers are behind a fence that only opens when the business is open. Some chargers just won't work, how many tries you have (McDonalds for instance, never got them to work with the car or the bike). Get a wireless charge phone  holder for the handlebars.

I also learned the Ribelle is at home in the hills. The bike really came to life on the curves, and being electric (And full of traction control and ABS) made the hairpins and tight downhill corners easier than on my gas bike. I mean, the bike also excels on the highway but she was pretty nimble despite the weight.

I have shot a video of the first part with the GoPro, when I'm done stabilizing, tidying up and uploading I'll post a link.

Energica / Tutoro chain oiler installation
« on: May 15, 2022, 08:00:40 PM »
Because our bikes lack the vacuum in an air box that most chain oilers use to activate, and the electronic versions are *way* more expensive, I opted for a Tutoro chain oiler because it is motion activated so no holes in airboxes (Which we don't have) or expensive electronic oilers.
The Ribelle posed something of a challenge for placing the oiler. Everything is neatly tucked away behind plastics which leaves almost no room for an oiler, and since the thing needs to be filled every once in a while it needs to be accessible as well.

I opted to put the oiler in the frame triangle just behind the left indicator because the oiler is then accessible and in an upright position. Took some fiddling but eventually it fit in.
The oiler tube was routed past a signal cable to the rear fork, and the cable clamps were stuck on. Because the coating of the fork is a bit rough, two of the clamps are stuck on with double-sided tape but the two most aft clamps are glued on. There is no way to secure the hose with the supplied ty-wraps so for me that was the way to go.
To get the oiler end to touch the rear sprocked there was a shark fin supplied in the kit I bought. This is also supposed to be mounted using ty-wraps but again, no way. I glued the shark fin on as well, using 2-component rapid epoxy for that. Mechanically that should be sound but to make sure I really cleaned the area with brake cleaner, then alcohol, then roughened the area with an abrasive before applying the glue. Should be there for life now ;)

I'll update this thread with my experiences in using the oiler.

Energica / Energica stops using bluetooth
« on: May 12, 2022, 08:14:34 PM »
I just emailed my dealer because my bluetooth won't work, and he stated that 'Energica sent out an email last week stating they'll stop using bluetooth applications'. Anybody else hear this?

Energica / 'Electric beat' missing in settings
« on: May 11, 2022, 02:00:22 PM »
I have a brand spanking new Ribelle '22 and a friend has a '18 Eva. When he starts the bike he has the funky tank-LED animation, and I was expecting my bike to also have it but I'm missing the 'Electric beat' menu item in settings. Does that mean I have to go without the flashy tank logo animation? Not like the world's going to end when it's not there but if a '22 Ribelle should have it, it should work right?

Energica / App not finding bike
« on: May 09, 2022, 02:43:38 PM »
My Eva Ribelle 2022 is not found by my iPhone. I've tried the steps in the myenergica-pdf (preferences > connectivity > press on the address, press on the reset) but the bike doesn't show up in the Myenergica-app.  Then I turned the bike off and on again and tried searching for a new device in the bluetooth-settings of the iPhone but also no luck. The phone only finds my Sena and my OBD connector but not the bike's bluetooth.

Anything else I could try?

TIA!

Buy Sell Trade / (Sold) Zero (d)s platform external charger
« on: April 24, 2022, 06:13:56 PM »
For sale: Since I no longer have my trusty DSR I’m selling my external charge setup, which consists of 2 Eltek Flatpack S units programmed to 57.7V in series (Totaling 115,4V or around 85% SOC), and a Mennekes-to-J1772 3-phase splitter so this can be used on the European 3-phase public infrastructure. The Elteks have a custom PCB for tapping and inserting power and the Elteks deliver power to the bike through the auxilary Anderson connector. The J1772 uses phase 1 and phase 2 and 3 are broken out using a junction box with female C19 receptacles that are connected to phase 2 and 3. With the junction box and the v1 charge tank the max charge rate is 7.2kW meaning a full charge of a ZF13 takes 100 minutes.

Please be advised this is an experimental setup and the new owner should take care not to electrocute themselves when using this device! I used it a few dozen times with success but I cannot guarantee anything!

Asking price €400,-

More info on request. Shipping at the buyers expense.

Energica / Going from a Zero DSR ZF13 to a Energica Eva Ribelle
« on: April 03, 2022, 08:53:39 PM »
And I'm pretty psyched about it! Should be delivered in 6-10 weeks.
Ordered the windscreen, keyless and heated grips as well as the soft cases. Any tips for the delivery or accessories that are a must have? Have been driving an electric bike for 6 years now so have the charging setup pretty much dialed in.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Zero SR/S findings
« on: April 03, 2022, 04:53:30 PM »
Since my DSR is in the shop for a few days I have a SR/S loaner to drive to work with. On the way back I drove some known twisties with the occasional bump in the road, and two things struck me when riding the bike:
- The suspension bottoms out fairly early, especially hitting speed bumps at normal speeds
- When hitting a bump in a curve, the frame feels like a rubber band changing the geometry slightly

Am I the only one noticing this? Or am I so used to the on-rails experience of the DSR that the slightest thing sticks out like a sour thumb? Might be that I have some cognitive dissonance here ;)

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Drive belt stripped
« on: April 15, 2017, 03:52:37 PM »
Hey guys,

Yesterday, while driving home from work, my belt stripped. This is the second time this happens to me.
First time with 5900km on the odo, I was driving on the highway, making speed from 60km/h to 100km/h when the belt stripped about 15cm of teeth. Scared the hell out of me, stopped along the road to check the damage. Decided to drive home on backroads, which I made (20km). The next saturday I drove to the dealers (50km) but didn't make it, belt snapped at 30km's. The dealer picked me up (Great guys btw, MotoPort Amsterdam deserves kudo's on this one) and fixed the belt, inspecting the pulleys but didn't find anything irregular.

Second time (Yesterday) I was waiting at a traffic lights a km from home in Custom mode (100% everything). Light turns green, I take off at 75% throttle and strip another few teeth, this time about 10cm. Crap! Odo is at 9900km so only 3000km on this belt! I'm attempting another trip to the dealer in an hour, going in Custom with 40% torque and 80km/h speed limit on back roads.

Anybody else have this experience? I ride 200km/week commuting, check belt tension every saturday (Tension at 25kg all the time btw which is in between the recommended 20-30kg's), no off roading just backroad and about 10km of highway every day.

Cheers,

Ton.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Seat bolt size DSR 2016
« on: February 02, 2017, 05:52:17 PM »
Hi all,

I seem to have lost my seat bolt from the right side of the bike but I was wondering what the size of the bolt is, and if it's a metric or some sort of unc/unf bolt... Does anyone know the size of the bolt? By removing the other side i could take some rough measurements but determining the thread would be way out of my skill level ;)

TIA!

Ton.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Charger errors in logfile
« on: November 22, 2016, 07:25:38 PM »
This afternoon I tried starting up the bike, finding the warning led blinking irradically and the bike not arming. After about 10 seconds, all digits on the cockpit started blinking. I keyed the bike off, waited a few moments, and then after keying on the bike armed in 4 seconds giving no errors.
So at work I dumped the logfiles, and threw them through the logfile parser to find the following part:

 09260     11/21/2016 18:08:01   Low Chassis Isolation      100 KOhms to cell 3

This goes on for about 50 lines, and was last night right after the bike stopped charging.
The weird part for me is the fact that 'Charger 5', which looks like the charge tank, keeps connecting for 6 seconds, then disconnects for a second, then connects again etc.

The log of me keying the bike on however shows:
Code: [Select]
09350     11/22/2016 03:48:32   Sevcon Turned On
 09351     11/22/2016 03:48:32   Sevcon CAN Link Down

 09356     11/22/2016 03:48:33   Sevcon Turned Off
 09357     11/22/2016 03:48:35   Sevcon Turned On'

And this repeats about 12 times, before I key off the bike and try again, after which no more errors occur...
It looks like the Sevcon was in sort of a loop, becoming available but then turning itself off again, and on, and off...

Is this something I should worry about?

[edit] It's a DSR 2016 with dealer-fitted charge tank
