Title: Charging a dead lithium battery
Post by: Richard230 on October 10, 2017, 04:37:05 AM
My son-in-law thought it would be a good idea to charge a small motorcycle lithium battery that was completely dead as the last time it was charged was 6 years ago. And he decided to charge it with a 6-amp car battery charger. Naturally, he almost burned down their house, but fortunately caught the melt down just in time. Not good idea!  :o   I guess he now loves the smell of lithium gas in the morning.  ::)

Scroll down to What to Do When a Battery Overheats

TL;DR

get the lithium away from anything flammable, get it out of doors.

get a class D fire exinguisher, water may work for smaller batteries
