This is why you shall not wash your Zero:
while washing my bike today i discovered that it has got serious rust pitting on the left stancion. Any one having experience with that? I thought that the suspension parts was of high quality. I also discovered that my sidestand is sometimes hitting the rear swingarm, tearing just a tiny bit of paint off.
The problem with the stansion is;
1) THOU SHALL NOT RUST!!! THOU SHALL NOT RUST!!! THOU SHALL NOT RUST!!! THOU SHALL NOT RUST!!!
2) Eventually it will tear the fork seals, leading to oil seepage and piss poor performance.

The FastAce forks on my 2014S still look like new, without a spot of rust. :)

If that's surface rust, a rust remover (like Naval Jelly etc.) followed by fine sanding & clear coat should make it less noticeable, and also less likely to return in that area.

Hard to tell via just an image but anyway this could be remnants of welding or grinding that made its way to that portion of the tube?

I didn't get a picture, but I did take a look....I've got 34,000 on my 2014 SR and those may be the most pristine-looking parts on my bike. Everything else is fading and just getting old and tired, but the fork tubes look great.

if that is surface rust from something sitting on top of the chrome, you can just polish it off, its nothing to worry about.
if the chrome itself is pitted, then you have a bum plating job. I would contact zero to see about a replacement.
First take a bunch more high res pics, then try to polish it clean. only once its clean will you be able to tell if it goes below the surface.

I'll try to scrape it off without scratching the chrome surface. Otherwise I'll have to replace the stansion i guess.

If the tubes are pitted, you can have them re-chromed. You want hard chrome, like what's on hydraulic rams, and different from the chrome on a car bumper.
Eventually I will be having the tubes on my VFR's forks done. Last time I checked it was going to cost about half of what new tubes would cost.

Had it at the dealers today. They said I'll need a new pair of stansions. Most likely on warranty.
