Faded Frame
« on: June 04, 2017, 08:47:16 AM »

Hey all, seems like after a year my frame has turned a bad purple color. After removing the battery/side panels you can see what the color should look like. Looks like a direct sunlight problem, starting a month ago I've been sure to cover the bike while I work, but the damage has been done

Anyone know of a solution I can apply to the frame to bring the black back?

Thanks

Uh... paint?

You could strip the frame and take it to a powdercoat shop, it's a fair bit of work if you're into that. While you're at it you can get it done in any colour you like :-)

Mine belly pan on 2016 DSR has taken on a golden patina.  I think these colour changes are normal for powdercoated parts used on the road. I don't know if there's some kind of rub-on product which can bring back the original colour.

Another possibility is vinyl coating, If done by a pro, you can achieve incredible results.

There are products on the market, such as Back to Black, that are designed to recolor faced automobile black plastic bumpers.  They typically only cost less than 10 dollars for a bottle of this creamy solution and take just a few minutes to apply.  You could give that a try before breaking out the paint brush.

It's not my bike and I don't have to look at it but with that being said, I sort of like the patina look, just my .02

The frame is anodized and not painted.  Anodize parts can fade overtime.

sorry for OT, the second pictures shows strange blurry/not blurry areas. Looks like the camera has an automatic "low depth of field simulating" function. :-)

Plastidip it. Any color you want, or just keep it black. Takes maybe 10 minutes including taping.
