Title: Zero Motorcycle Preferences Survey
Post by: Vertigo1 on October 03, 2012, 03:13:22 AM
Did anyone else get it?

Pretty interesting insight into where they see themselves headed in the future...

At the more optimistic end of the scale:
120 mph top speed
180 mi combined range per charge
4.5 second 0-60
<30 min for empty to 95% charging

I received a survey a couple of months ago, but nothing recently.

Same here. They're working on the trade-offs such as more speed or more range?

Notice they are not asking about gears.  ;D

I read somewhere a little while back that IET (who manufactures the Empulse transmission) owns significant patents for electric-drive transmissions. I have no idea what these patents cover; the Brutus is the first production (should I use scare quotes there? $40k doesn't seem like production to me) electric bike outside Brammo to use a transmission.

More power can significantly reduce the importance of a multi-gear transmission. And that's exactly what Zero has announced for the 2012 2013 (thanks firepower) bikes.

The Lightning also appears to get by without a transmission, IIRC, though it may have a gear reduction. Like you say, enough power (and maybe voltage)  can overcome many obstacles.
