Hi all, I know there's always a few long term lurkers / potential owners here (I was one) so wanted to put something up here before exposing it to the wider world.

After months of deliberation I've decided to part ways with my SR. I'm about to move state and no matter what way I rig it I can't get available charging infrastructure to align with my transport requirements, and also need to scale back the number of bikes I own.

The bike is fitted with the power tank (extended battery), R&G tail tidy, billet bar-end mirrors, custom grips, LED headlight, Metzeler M7RR's front and rear and has been blacked out (Plastidip - needs a reapplication though). I don't cheap out on parts. I've also got the non-charge tank plastics, a complete set of new (as in still in box) black plastics (tank, front fender, upper+lower tail) from Zero that I haven't had time to fit, and a collection of logs from new.

I'm looking to get ~AU$17.5k AU$16k for it, but happy to negotiate if it'll end up with someone who will really get to use and enjoy it. Swing me a DM here or you can find me at kim@simple.industries.

Hey guys, my new black fairings have finally arrived. I'll be fitting them next week so will have a spare set of red (SR) fairing with both the power tank and stock tank area. Currently they're plasti-dipped in matte black, but this can be peeled of (did plenty of coats to make this simple). I've got no use for them, so if you're thinking of changing colour, or would like a spare / replacements set make me an offer. Located in Melbourne, Australia.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Registration - Victoria, Australia
« on: April 14, 2016, 02:25:17 PM »
So I'm finally getting round to moving my SR over from a NSW registration to Victoria. As all registration down here it based on engine capacity, it's taking a bit of back and forth between Vic roads and myself to get some definition on what class it falls into.

In case anyone else finds themselves in the same boat, at this point in time they are classifying all electric motorbikes in the < 250cc registration class, regardless of power output.

Since I got the SR (and saw Harlan's) I've been wanting to do a bit of a neaten up on the front end. Well this morning the neighbour reversed into it while it was charging a messed up a few things. The throttle is minced and the forks have rotated in the tees when it fell over, but the rest seems to be cosmetic damage only. Thankfully I've already got another full set of fairings on order to go from my black plastidipped red set, to actual black (it was cheaper than painting / wrapping). I'm getting the local dealer to check for anything more severe as part of my insurance claim, but I'm thinking this may give me the excuse I've been looking for give it a bit of an upgrade.

I'm looking at a set of drag bars from Exile Cycles and fitting them with a grip ace and internal throttle. I can then run this to potbox like the Curtis PB-8 in the 'tank' area which will give me my 0-5K out. Mode toggle and stop switch would also get a new home on the tank. One issue I have is I need to go from the 7/8" mounts on the stock triple tee to the 1 1/4" for the Excile bars. Does anyone know of any existing solutions for this before I look at getting something machined?

Nice little aftermarket headlight - uses a tilt sensor to control an LED array for better light position through corners. Not cheap, but nice.

Other Electric Motorcycles / Fonzarelli

Do any of the other Australians here have one? I'm looking at scooters for the girlfriend and the SR could do with an electric friend :). I've already tried to convince her to go for an FXS (...that I can occasionally borrow...), but it's a little out of the budget for now.

From what I can tell, they're a rebranded Efun-B. Specs are identical, rear plastics are the same and there's a photos of Xiamen (which is where Efun is based) if you go back through Fonzarelli's Facebook feed. Nothing wrong with this, they've obviously gone through the ADR process, their marketing is killer and there is local support. But is the premium worth it?

In case anyone here is interested, it sounds like Mototecnic have a new (assuming ex-demo) black 2014 DS still available for $15,490 on road.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2014 SR - no throttle response
« on: November 18, 2015, 05:28:31 AM »
So the SR is offline. Again.

Went for a night twisties run with a few others yesterday. Pulled over for a rest but when we jumped back on the bikes the SR refused to go. Everything boots up normally, error codes 25 then 49 flash up (which looks to be ok). It's not an issue with the kill switch or kick stand contacts as the bike correctly switches between stopped and running mode when either is toggled. Just no response from the throttle. The diagnostic LED's on the monolith also weren't showing any out of normal.

After spending 30 minutes power cycling and checking anything I could without tools / a laptop I admitted defeat and organised a stupidly expensive middle of the night tow from the middle of nowhere. To make things even better, this was about when the police showed up and offered to do a run to a servo to get me a new set of AA batteries (to great delight of the other guys I was with).

After getting home I've decoded the logs. All temps looked to be ok, I've got a few entries with some issues with pre-charge on the Sevcon but nothing fatal (from my limited knowledge) - everything seems to recover. What I did notice though is that when I keyed off and the contactors opened module 00 was showing 103.333V and module 01 at 107.973V. This was the point the bike decided to put an early end to my night. From here on in when things init both modules continue to register (with similar voltages) but the contactor only appears to close on module 01. Log entries continue to appear with both contactors registering on boot and opening on key off, but startup only appears to open the PT contactor.

Has anyone else seen issues similar to this?

Any of the other Australian's here heading down to Phillip Island this weekend? Thinking about taking the SR down if I can organise somewhere to charge.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / The Firmware Thread
« on: October 04, 2015, 05:26:55 PM »
In lieu of a notification service from Zero, I thought I'd kick off a thread to keep track of current firmware releases so we can all keep an idea of when it might be a good time to head on into a dealer. If anyone's feeling kind, run your MBB logs through this and let us know what you're running. As time goes on, I'll do my best to keep this top post edited with the latest known releases.

Kicking off with what I have from the logs people had sent me figuring out the log file format

2013
MBB rev 1 - firmware v67

2014
MBB rev 1 - firmware v44
BMS rev 1 - firmware v43

2015
MBB rev 3 - firmware v25

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Charging in the rain
« on: September 21, 2015, 09:27:18 AM »
What are peoples current approaches to charging in the wet? Due to living in an apartment block with a backwards body corporate, my only charging options (until my lease runs up) are when I'm out and about - mainly at work. This is also out in the open so if it rains, the bike gets wet. The C13/14 coupler for the onboard charger obviously leaves a little to be desired when it comes to protection against the elements. Aside from throwing a cover on the bike, what do others do?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Tail removal
« on: September 19, 2015, 06:31:50 PM »
I'm currently in the process of blacking out my SR and can't for the life of me figure out how to remove the lower section of the tail plastic without damaging it. There's a couple of hex bolts which hold the stop light in, but they're in a super awkward position. Before I go to far down this route, is the the best way to do it (drop the black plastic below which wedges it up against the rear subframe?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Log file parser utility
« on: September 17, 2015, 08:32:58 PM »
After a few cursory looks at the support logs that you can extract from the bikes with the Zero app + bluetooth connection, I thought I'd pop together a little utility to provide a nicer option than just viewing through a hex editor. It's still early days, however I've started to build out a map of the file and log entry format based on the logs from my bike, and those I've been able to pull from the forums so far.

I'll keep pushing updates to a GitHub repo, with the goal of building out some tooling to translate the *.bin files from the app into a nice, human readable form to assist your own diagnostics and curiosity. If I get the time, I may even end up rolling this into a free service you can email your logs to directly from the app and it will shoot you back readable versions... maybe.

If you have any suggestions or improvements, feel free to fork the repo and submit pull requests, or if you're not a coder, log an issue.

For those looking to help out, I'd love to get my hands on some more logs so I can figure out how the file structure clicks together. Feel free to drop me a PM or shoot them to contact@kimburgess.info. Also, if anyone has already dived into this in any detail, it'd be great to hear from you too.

P.S. I know there's some awesome tools out there already and you can hook into the TTL / RS-232 line on the OBD port (which btw, if anyone has concrete info on what it is so I don't need to chase down a meter / scope to test, I'd love to know). This is simply a way to get at least a little bit of info, without the need for any external hardware in lieu of official tools from Zero. Plus, it a fun nerd puzzle to put together.
