KTM Electric Forum / Need 2018 FreeRide Information
« on: March 01, 2018, 04:30:05 AM »
Someone post something on the 2018 Freeride E.  Like the range they got in single track trails.  Feel free to throw in a helmet cam video as well.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Aug magazine article on 2013 FX
« on: July 22, 2013, 10:07:08 AM »
It was either Dirt Bike, or Dirt Rider, I forget.  They placed the power between a 250 and a 450, closer to a 450.  Had more power than a 250 4 or 2 stroke.  The range was like an mx bike with a small tank, so in the ballpark.  The rest of the bike they pretty much didn't like. Sort of strange because Zero could just copy another bikes geometry and suspension components.  Of course if the other suspension components cost more, that would add to an already very expensive bike.

Maybe I mentioned this before, but it seems to me a smaller motor would allow more range.  If so, it might be an interesting option.  Other motorcycle makers have 250 and 450 offroad bikes, why can't electric have different motor classes? The magazine guys actually set in in eco mode and were ok with that.  Surprising since they are sort of power junkies.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2013 FX, 2 battery function question
« on: December 23, 2012, 12:08:27 PM »
With 2 batteries, I have read you can ride with 1 or have increased power by using 2 at the same time.  Does anyone know if both batteries could be on board yet ony use 1 battery?  Then when the first battery was used up, you could use the other battery.  This would give increased range for rides that might need it.  Running in a lower power usage 1 battery config should use less energy than running both at the same time I would think.

I guess if the packs were identical they could be removed and swapped, but doing that out on the trail offroad would not be desired, and could be impossible.  Leaving 1 unplugged while riding, and then after it is empty, just unplug the empty battery and plug in the full one would be ok if the connectors were easy to get to.

I wonder if they planned for this type of usage and made it easy to do.  Or difficult by having the battery plug itself in as you slid it into place.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / offroad handling comparison
« on: October 27, 2012, 04:25:04 AM »
Can someone who rides offroad compare some of the Zero bikes to other dirtbikes?  It seems like the focus has been on the electric aspects of their bikes, not the handling. That seems reasonable since it is the new technology part of the bike, however I don’t know a lot about the handling.

BRD said they were basically going to copy typical dirbike dimensions and suspension so they could focus on the electric part.  So maybe with the BRD I could guess it would handle pretty much ok like other dirtbikes on the market today.

KTM already knows how to make dirtbikes so I could guess their e-bike will handle just fine. They said their motor and battery pack was all sealed up so no problems with water.

It is too early to get an offroad ride comparison on the 2013 FX, but I think it will be pretty close to the other existing Zero products.  I am still concerned about the zero’s motor being open because water shorts electrical things out, and I live in a rain forest. It will not only get wet, it will get submerged.

Will 2013 really see 3 new e-dirtbikes?  I would like to see that.  It appears with the price increases from Zero, that maybe all 3 will be close in price.
