Title: Rear Brake Light Sensor
Post by: ColoPaul on February 08, 2016, 02:37:25 AM
So after almost getting rear ended  :o   I noticed that my rear brake will only activate the brake light if I basically stand on it.  It doesn't appear to be adjustable.  I guess I should just get a new one, maybe call the dealer parts dept and see if the can find out a good replacement, unless someone here knows.

Anyone had any similar experience, even on non-Zero bikes?

I got a recall notice from Zero a couple of years ago about the rear brake light. I think it was for 2011 and 2012 models (I have a 2011 DS).

You can look it up here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues (http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues)

It was recall #12V-307, I had it performed and have the paperwork still.
But unfortunately, it only applied to the brake-light sensor for the front lever.

But thanks anyway.   Anyone else?

I think the rear brake light switch is activated by brake fluid line pressure. Perhaps you have some air in your rear brake line?  Maybe a brake fluid flush and change will help.   ???  Alternately, you would have to replace the switch, or just remember to always use the front brake when braking so that its switch will activate the brake light.
