The bad news is that LiveWire, Harley’s electric motorcycle division which it actually spun into a new company to go public by SPAC last year, is doing bad. Harley, for one, says it expects LiveWire to lose up to $125 million this year. Harley also said that LiveWire sold just 69 motorcycles in the fourth-quarter of 2022, a number that I initially thought was a typo. It says for 2023 it hopes to have up to 2,000 electric units.

A terrible shame, but not entirely unexpected, given its price is still batshit. I wonder how Zero etc are doing now they've jacked up the price to car levels. (I can say with certainty I'd never have bought the SR/F with a sticker price over £17k).

However, I heard yesterday that the ICE Motor Company did very well last year, with record profits. It looks like they made the right financial decision dumping the LiveWire into its own company. That experience is not going to do anything to convince the other major motorcycle manufacturers to jump into the highway-capable electric motorcycle market. :(

I dunno, the Motor Co's customer base is fairly radically different to, say, Honda's.

Just don't make a bike that can only AC charge at 1.4 KW, make a bike much like the Experia but with a 6 KW charger and it will sell like hotcakes.
