Anybody else out there having a problem with their 2012 S DS shutting completely off when riding in ECO mode. Mine has done that both when riding at a steady speed (55mph) as well as when I'm decelerating. When decelerating it's dead when I roll on the throttle while still moving. Switching to SPORT mode returns it to normal running under both conditions. It doesn't happen all the time. :(

I would let Zero know asap.

Hey Frank. You're the only customer who's had this problem so we're all looking forward to figuring out what the problem may be. Hope you had a fun time riding this weekend but we'll need the bike back in the shop if we're going to fix it for you :)

Sorry, should have said your Zero dealer. :D

I understand Harlan, but ZERO is going to have to figure out what the problem is. It's a little early to say that no one else is having this problem, since everybody is just beginning to ride these 2012's. That's why I posted it on the forum, to find out if it is a system problem (other people having the same problem) or a component failure, just on my bike. My gut feel is that it is a system problem.

We have a few ideas as to what the problem is but until we hook up the diagnostic equipment, we won't know. Although they have only started shipping, Zero has been testing these bikes for many months now and have never seen this problem. The sooner you bring it in, the sooner we can fix it! See you tomorrow? :)

Harlan, I'm out in the desert so you won't see me tomorrow. Going to do a pavement ride tomorrow and I'll be trying the ECO mode at different times on that ride.
I'm not going to do a serious dirt ride until I get the new tires on the bike.
BTW - It looks like the swing arm is identical with the 2010 so I may be able to just switch swing arms to use the 17" wheel. If that works I won't have to go through the whole mod process again. I'll continue this project when I get back in my shop in town.

I've been switching back and forth from Sport to Eco mode without any problems. In fact, when I first rode the bike I hadn't read the owner's manual and so didn't know that I was supposed to stop to change modes - it seemed to work on the fly (I could easily see the difference in the acceration and regen braking), but since reading the owner's manual I've been switching modes only while stopped.

Maybe that is the problem. I haven't received an owner's manual yet (didn't come with the new bike because it was still in printing) so I've been changing back and forth between the two modes on the fly. I'm going to ride today and I'll try changing only while stopped.
Harlan, how about mailing me an owner's manual. I didn't know they were available yet, until I read the previous post.

Trikester, if you can't get a manual from Harlan, PM me with your email address and I will send you one.
When I visited my dealer to look at the new 2012 DS that they had just got in, I asked them for a Zero brochure and they downloaded what they thought was a brochure on to my handy key fob drive. But it turned out to be the full 110-page owners manual for both the 2012 S and DS models. I have already read the entire thing - twice. It is now resting comfortably in my computer files. ;D

I guess I have a real problem, not related to the operator's manual. Today I did a 46 mile road ride. 1/2 way, with the bike stopped and the key off, I switched to ECO mode. About 3/4 mile down the road it shut down and I switched back to SPORT where it ran great all the rest of the way.

Speaking of the owner's manual - when I picked up my bike I asked about the owner's manual and the salesman said that it didn't come with one. He told me to look for one online when I got home. "Oh, and by the way, here is your Zero keychain". He have me what looked like a keychain, wrapped in a small plastic bag. When I got home I opened the bag with the "keychain" to find the USB flashdrive inside, with the owner's manual on it (in a pdf file).

I have been told by ZERO they have new software that will fix my shutting down in ECO mode problem. They are going to make the software change for me when they can get my bike.
I had to laugh ::) when I was told this problem was unique to my bike, no one else has had this problem, and then a minute later told that they have new software to correct it. Huh? ???
