Took my FX 5.7 2013 in Hollister hills (California) yesterday. It was a great day. I put some more aggressive tires and they worked out great. I was able to go everywhere (black) and even did Telegraph hills (very step) easily. I keep the 2 batteries in. The bike is little bit heavy that way and bottom out the suspension a few times but still a very enjoyable ride. the FX performed very well for an Intermediate rider. My other dirt bike is a Kawa KLX300 4 strokes. I think I will use the FX most of the time going forward
Also, It was funny, there was a sign on a trail that said Quiet Area . Perfect for the Zero but not so good for the ICE bike from my friend :)

Love Hollister!
Now, the real question: How much range does it get riding off road?
-
Depending on how hard to push I would say 30 to 50 miles
-
Francois,
It seems the belt is OK for off-road?

Well, if it gets 30 honest miles riding off road, then I might have to look into that. I currently have a Yamaha WR250R and the weight is similar.
-
Range varies with conditions. Dial down the fun, range gets better.
My FX 5.7 is set up as SuperMoto. I have gone 90 miles VERY slowly.
My commute to and from work is 20 Miles. 7 miles street 13 miles freeway.
Gentle riding gets me to work with about 60% left. City streets to work
gets me there with about 75~80 % left. 75~80 on freeway gets me there
with about 50% left. I would think that dirt riding will decrease range
compared to similar street speeds, but, probably won't be going 75 mph
all the time off road. I would imagine that 30 miles should be pretty
easy to reach. If you ride with only ONE battery, It will be 20% lighter,
same torque, but, less HP. Zero to Sixty times only .3 seconds slower
with one battery, so, unless in competition, shouldn't be too much
difference in regular riding, maybe even quicker corner to corner
because of less weight. Swap batteries in a couple minutes.
Riding in Eco mode for "normal" riding would help increase range,
then, switch to sport for FUN.

The belt is doing find. I do have the kit to convert it to chain when the belt broke but I like the belt so far as it is more quiet. I also did get previously 50 miles on the original tires in Hollisters but could not go anywhere. I needed to kore aggressive threads. Ideally, I would have 2 sets of wheels . One for the street and one for he dirt. Or 2 zero motorcycles [emoji3]

You can get 30 miles dirt riding I know I have, and we drag raced whole way home it was epic lol. They will go 90mph and track straight in the bumpest of roads so they get my approval
Damn Ed! 90 miles, sounds like a sore butt!! I was always sore as ever after 30-50 mile rides with my bikes.

One of the first things that I do when I get a plug in vehicle is to see
how far I am able to make it go in a controlled situation. This relieves
any possible Range Anxiety. I generally do this ONCE.
I went close to 60 miles with my 2012 XU, Exactly 60 miles in my Volt before
the gas engine kicked on, and, 90 miles on 2013 FX ( still had SOME juice ).
After that, I drive / ride more conventionally. Ford says that the Focus Electric
will go 76 miles on a charge. My best has been 146. Next charge station was
5 miles away, probably could have made it, but, figured I would save the
150 mark for something closer to the house.

FX 2013
I took my new 2013 FX to Metcalf for the first time on Saturday. Rode with one battery, used about half its capacity in an hour or so; 12 miles indicated. Even after dropping the tire pressure down to 20PSI, I never took it out of Eco mode, as wheel spin was quite possible at almost any time. What tires did you put on your FX, Francois?

I am actually not home for the next few days. I don't remember on top of my head. Give me a few days and I will get back to you
-
Finally back. The tire I got are the Metzeler MCE 6 days Extreme
http://www.metzeler.com/site/us/mobile/products/tyres-catalogue/Me-6daysextrem.html
Front 90/90 -21 M/C 54M
Rear 120/90 -17 M/C 65
I had to modified a bit the rear mud guard (easy fix).
These tired are still street legal but mostly for dirt
-
Got me a set of Dunlop Geomax AT81 tires. Stock sizes, hope they fit!
I dropped the FX off at Evolution Motorcycles yesterday morning to have it lowered. They will install a spacer inside the shock to limit its extension, in order to lower the rear by an equal amount to how far the front fork tubes can be raised up in the triple-clamps. A custom spring will be installed on the rear shock, computed for my weight. I'm Looking forward to my next visit to Metcalf!! 8)

Hello
You said the shocks bottomed out. This is my problem even at small jumps, could you improve it by hardening the pre-constraint? I did not find an adequate tool to do it yet.
