First time poster!
Quick question about my 2016 Zero SR. I bought the bike about two weeks ago and I love it! However, tonight when I plugged it in to charge (at 63%) it's not charging and I can't find any info about it in the owners manual. There are no error messages other than 44 and 45.
When I plug it in, the display goes through the start up procedure. It then displays the current battery life but the time left to charge reads 00:00 and the green charging light flashes about 10 times then stops. The BMS has lights 1 & 2 illuminated for approx half a second then off for four seconds. I can't find anything in the user manual about that flash pattern (key is off and cable plugged in).
I left it like this to see if it would charge. I checked on it about 20 minutes later and the whole display was flashing all 8's and the warning light was continuously flashing. The BMS isn't flashing at all (still plugged in and keyed off).
Has anybody experienced something similar? I emailed Zero but will call them this afternoon if I don't hear a response.

I don't know about the 2016 models, but on my 2014 S, when the dash goes crazy like that, it apparently means that the charger failed a self-test and may not be feeling well. That happened to me one time and I solved my problem by disconnecting the power cord and plugging it back in after a few minutes. I haven't had a problem since. ???

Yeah I tried that. I haven't tried resetting the BMS yet. The weird thing is that I can't find info on the display flashing. If it's capable of flashing in that manner, it means it was programmed to do so. Why not say why in the user manual?

Update:
When I got home today I drove it around the block and tried charging it. After plugging it in the display went through its start up. The battery is still at 63â„… and the time remaining to charge still says 0:00 but the green charging light is still flashing indicating it is charging. As I as standing by monitoring I heard a CLICK and the green charging light stopped flashing. 5 seconds later I heard another CLICK and the light began flashing again. I'm waiting to see if it will increases the charge by 1â„… before I try anything else. My next step is going to resetting the BMS.

Do you have a power tank? I ran into "everything on the dash flashing" charging error a few times early on. I have a 2016 SR w/PT.
Ended up being a combo of a few things - firmware, and the BMS getting used the main pack+power-tank.
Happened twice after the firmware upgrade, haven't had an issue for the last 5 months.
I usually leave it plugged in.

I don't have any type of upgraded charging capabilities. Just the standard 110v outlet charger.
Update:
It started doing the crazy flashing thing again. I ended up taking it to my dealer. Well see what they find.

Here's a video of the flashing display

The power tank is the extra battery that goes in the tank area. The charge tank is the charging upgrade for the tank area. You have neither, right?

Yeah, sorry. I have neither. Just the standard base model SR.

Update:
They diagnosed that the charger was bad. Should have a new one installed and ready to ride by Tuesday. All covered under warranty.
-
Yeah charger are a bit of a weak point on some Zeros, gladly they at least acknowledge the problem and don't make a big fuss about replacing them.
-
New charger was overnighted to my dealer. Bike was ready to go by Friday. Impressed with Zeros customer service. Glad they stand by their product. Shout out to Revolution Moto in Santa Rosa for a fast job diagnosing and repairing the problem. Hopefully it doesn't fail again!

I just started having some goofy problems with a '16. error codes 15 and 47 were popping up, not charging. Power cycled the bike, error codes went away. Tried riding and it was working fine at low speed. As soon as I twisted the throttle to accelerate, the power would cut with no error code. Turning the bike off and on reset, and bike was rideable again, but power would cut as soon as I twisted the throttle again.
Bike is going in tomorrow. I feel like a beta tester.

You're not a beta tester.... you're an early adopter. When you're an early adopter, sometimes all the kinks haven't been worked out. It's a fact of life. It's not realistic to have every issue worked out prior to selling to the general public. Eventually, every product needs to be released to the public where issues will be discovered that you never saw during testing because people use stuff in ways that you never imagined. It's a reality of engineering.
I would try to reset the BMS and see if that fixes your issue (press button under the rubber cap on front of battery for 3 secs).

Darn,
My replacement charger just died. I will drop off my 2015 SR Tuesday for "diagnosis" but we all know what the issue is. My first charger lasted 2426 miles, the second lasted 13,000 miles or about 400 charge cycles. If we want to be accurate the current charger is actually the third charger that has been in my bike; the first "replacement" charger did not work at the shop at the time of install. Bring on charger number 4!!!!
I was extremely disheartened to see that the 2016 models have the same issue. I would like to see the charger issues and limited charging power thoroughly addressed before I buy another Zero. I am thinking of getting a supercharger just so I avoid downtime but I would be getting it for the wrong reason and that would just be sad.
Overall I think the hassle the charger has caused is worth it because Zero motorcycles are pure magic.
-
The charger on my daughter's early-build 2012 Zero S is still charging away and it has been plugged in continuously since the bike was manufactured (other than when being ridden). I am sure it has a lot more than 400 cycles on it - probably more like 1000. So it would appear to me that the problem is with the component and not with the design. Something about the charger changed between 2012 and 2015/16. A different manufacturer, perhaps? ???

Yes, I think those had Mean Well until 2014.
-
2012 and prior was 1000w Delta Q, 2013 was 2S2P 320w meanwells, 2014 and up was Calex which has been the problem

Thanks! I've updated the wiki again for the QuiQ 1000 (after confirming on forum threads): http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Unofficial_Service_Manual#Charger (http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Unofficial_Service_Manual#Charger)

SF Moto replaced my BMS (took over 2 weeks).
They say it's still not fixed. Maybe a new charger? I've had the bike since May, and it's been in the shop for a month an a half total with less than 1000 miles on it.
Buyers remorse, over here.

Sorry to hear that. From other posts it seems like SF moto is just a very busy dealer and have quite a backlog with limited space to work. Many have posted that a charging error gets fixed in 2-3 days with Zero overnighting parts and the dealer working on it first thing in the morning. So this seems like a dealer issue and not a Zero issue. I would call SF moto each morning to see the progress to remind them that this is not just some bike you use for recreation a few times a year. Other dealers like Hollywood Electrics could have this fixed by the end of the day. It just depends on their skill and backlog of work. Good luck getting back on the road soon! Owning a Zero is definitely worth it. Once you get the bike back any remorse you will forget you ever had.

One big problem that all motorcycle dealerships are having in the SF Bay Area is a lack of qualified technicians. Every shop I go into has a sign asking for help in their service departments. I think this is the result of our very expensive cost of living in this area and the fact that fewer and fewer young people are being trained as, or have an interest in, motorcycle mechanics - much less also having the necessary education and understanding how to work on this new EV technology.
Also, motorcycle shops just can't pay enough to attract and retain qualified technical staff (no problem with sales people, though ::) ) so that they can live in the Bay Area. This is a really big issue for motorcycle dealerships as their older technicians retire and/or move out of the area and I don't see a solution coming along any time soon. :(
There may be a day when your bike gets picked up by a self-driving automated truck and transported to a central repair center to be fixed or serviced and then returned to you via robot driver. ;)
In other maybe-related news: there is a company in Mountain View who is now making pizza pies using robots and even has a truck with 50 "smart" ovens that cook the pies on route so that they finish cooking just as the delivery truck arrives at your doorstep. There goes the need for experienced pizza chefs. :o

This combination of needlessly non-tech job-eliminating startups and a total lack of regional accommodation of tech job growth are shameful on the part of this entire region.

Picking up tomorrow. The BMS that Zero sent was apparently programmed for a monolith, and not the dual battery system the FX has. SF Moto reprogrammed the BMS and it's working now.

The irony haha! I now have the exact same symptoms on my 2016 DSR!
I am currently stuck in O'Brien, OR on what has been an epic journey from Vancouver, Canada. On a Saturday in an area where very little runs on the weekends. I was heading to Hollywood Electrics. Not good when the most important part of an EV doesn't work. I have already contacted my dealer... Zero is next but they are closedðŸ˜
Monday will be fun. So if anyone is passing through, I'm at the RV park. Fun times. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas I would appreciate it. It was suggested to me to haul it to Zero direct and see if they can sort me out. Don't know what else to do until Monday.
If only I had an awesome little special fast charger as a backup!😂
Spirits are high for now! Just part of the adventure. Don't want to think what this will cost me to transport😌

My SR stopped charging about two weeks ago so I called Contra Costa Powersports in Concord where I bought it. i made an appointment for one and a half weeks out but they didn't even look at the bike until the day after I brought it in which was Wednesday of last week. They never called me like they said they would to let me know status either, I had to call them. Now they're telling me it's a bad charger plus it's showing codes that Zero doesn't recognize. Sounds mighty fishy to me. They also claimed to be on the phone with Zero for "hours". They say they won't know anything until the middle part of next week which I don't understand. Zero's factory is only 80 miles from this dealer-I'm not getting a good feeling about this.

...claimed to be on the phone with Zero for "hours".
Translation: Back-and-forth dozens of phone calls with Zero factory because Zero is very particular on how the dealer must go about diagnosing problems, and controlling the entire feedback loop of diagnosis with repair.

Yeah that sounds like bullshit to me! Grrr ... Dealers.
Anyways dropped off my bike at the Factory. Nice fellas! Nice to see the younger generation making up most of the staff. Still would have liked a tour after what I have been through. Maybe on pickup.
I really hope Zero sorts out this charger reliability issue.
Lesson learned. Always have a back up charger for longer trips!

Good luck. I doubt they're going to let anyone in the factory until after the 2017 lineup is announced in November.
