Title: high beam switch improvement/mod
Post by: kashography on October 03, 2016, 12:02:26 PM
I am driving motorcycles for 10years now, and since august i drive with the zero sr and am very happy. Though the first thing i mentioned while driving in the dark was the stupid way to build the high beam switch. Every bike i drove before had an "normal" switch like the kill switch for example. Zero did this slider that, after turning on the high beam, puts the knub in a position that is not meant to reach with the thumb while holding normally to the handlebar.
I may over time would have got used to it, but it ennoyed me too much ;D

Long story short; i grabbed Sugru and formed a knub on the lower side uf the Slide/Switch. This lets me switch high beam on/off easily.
Here i quick "demo" (when dropbox asks, you do not have to register or login): https://www.dropbox.com/s/yjvbbale002nyeg/20161002_180616.mp4?dl=0 (https://www.dropbox.com/s/yjvbbale002nyeg/20161002_180616.mp4?dl=0)

Nice! I have the same expectation / critique - a rocker instead of a very low profile slider switch.

I often trigger the hazard signals when I want high beams!

Anyway, I might try that, too. I've never messed with Sugru before; it seems kind of fun.

Wikified at Zeromanual (http://zeromanual.com) thanks.  Note I stole the video onto my Youtube channel with attribution, and hopefully someday we can embed videos into Zeromanual wiki.

They changed the design in 2015. On my 2014 there is a normal rocker switch for the high beams but there are no hazard lights on the 2014.

I have really wanted a hazard switch the few times I have been riding on the highway and Zero cuts power around 10% battery left.

Ironically, starting in 2015 they added the hazard switch but at the same time I don't think Zero cuts power the way they do with the older bikes (probably because it finally dawned on them how dangerous it is to be going 65 mph with cars behind you and have your bike cut power without warning and suddenly you can't go over 30 mph unless going downhill).

I like your work around for the high beams!

thanks for the feedback and for adding it on the zeromanuel! awesome

@mrwilson
i dont understand why you would use the hazard switch on the highway.. i mean, i cuts your power.. !?

It doesn't cut your power. It's just ironic that they added hazard light functionality the same year that battery improvements meant that power cuts (because some battery cells with abnormally low voltages can trigger the battery to protect itself) were no longer an issue.

oh damn, i mistook the hazard switch for the kill switch. now it makes sence xD Somethimes I am to confident about my englisch, i should question it more ;D
