Hey guys,
I want to change the Unofficial Zero Owners Manual logo to something else, but I dont have any great ideas. lol.
I was thinking of using a picture of a zero bike with a nice background, but by the time you shrink it down to fit in the corner of the wiki page, its just "a motorcycle" instead of instantly identifiable as a Zero Motorcycle.
So I decided to have a "contest" where you can submit whatever you think would work great for the logo and we will see what we can come up with as a community. Contest is in quotes as theres no prize other than being able to see your logo idea on the page.
Requirements:
You have to own the image/photograph.
It cannot have the Zero Motorcycle logo (but it can have pics of your bike)
It has to look good at 160x160 pixels (but a larger "master" image should exist)
It should convey an association with the subject of being a manual, being for zero motorcycles, and/or electric motorcycles..
It can (but not required to) say the words "Unofficial Zero Motorcycle Manual", but not in Zeros trademarked font.
You will be give permission for the image to be used on the site.
Im excited to see what we can come up with as a community... I know atleast one of the people reading this is probably a graphic artist. (or atleast more artistic than me)

While I don't have any big ideas for a Zero manual logo, a similar logo "contest" was proposed on the BMW F650GS (chain-driven, single cylinder, AKA a "thumper") forum and they came up with these two cute logos.

Maybe we could use (or modify) this logo. I created it with Inkscape to make stickers for my bike. I'll attach the .svg file.

EDIT: Just struck me that this is vaguely reminiscent of the old Electricross logo.

I tried it at home and again here at work and I cant get that to open.

Use Inkscape vector graphics software (http://inkscape.org) to edit/open. No cost, free as in freedom.

I spent more time on this than Id like to admit... :-\

Thanks, I pulled it off google images and edited slightly, it shouldnt violate any copyright laws...

That picture looks awesome! Well done!

Oh, dear. That looks cool but seems gaudy to me and implies electrocution, which I'd rather avoid.

The concept of "missing manual" does not infringe on Zero Motorcycles. Surely there are other technical products this can be expanded to?
How about a shelf of books/manuals, and a mouse arrow pointing to a missing spot on the shelf?

Meh, I think it symbolizes the power of electricity and I visualize the bolts as more of a harmless EMF surrounding the bike... Honestly I think it kinda resembles BenSwings paint job, which I dont find gaudy at all ;)

As a former electrical professional, it represents nothing so harmless as vaporizing a human being. :( I didn't like Ben's paint job for the same reason.
The average layman finds electricity mystifying, not nearly as much as nuclear power, but enough that I'd really want to project an image of professionalism. I know we owe a lot to Nikola Tesla, but he never made electricity look exactly safe or normal.

It's like the electrical equivalent of yer olde hot rod flames.

Those of us who ride motorcycles have already disregarded the notion of safety, and I doubt 99% of a potential adopter is concerned about getting electrocuted, their primary concern is range. If they come from ICE bikes, they have been riding around with a volatile highly flammable explosive liquid in between their legs so a few batteries in place of a liquid gasoline bomb sounds safer to me... ::)

Having spent a few years now answering questions about electric motorcycles from regular motorcyclists, I think this does us a disservice.
Feel free to use the image somewhere else. Let's just not brand a user-contributed service manual and information guide with the visual equivalent of scare quotes. The forum or your own blog can have the "cool effects".

Zeropointzero. You need to print that on a T-shirt, stat! Damn that is cool! I'd buy that T-shirt, damn Id buy two!
I do agree with Brian's assessment. Some people are dumb. Like really dumb. I have played the "how many cc is it", "zero" "no how many cc is it?" Game far too often:p
I do send people to the unofficial owners manual website for reference when considering buying a zero. It's a powerful tool, something friendlier would be preferable.
Just my two cents! Still would buy that on a T-shirt. Think about it!

I like it too, Zeropointzero. But then again, I'm an EE, so electricity doesn't scare me. ;D It's a fun, exciting sport, and your logo reflects that.
Extra-burly t-shirt for me, please!
-
I don't wanna charge (pun intended) anybody for a Tshirt, but I might just go make my own at.... https://www.spreadshirt.com/design-your-own-t-shirt (https://www.spreadshirt.com/design-your-own-t-shirt)
ElecticZen.... Youre right people are really dumb sometimes, but when it comes to E-bikes I expect a certain level of ignorance. But I LOL'd at your "how many cc is it" comment, cuz I just got that one yesterday. My standard answer is that its equivalent to a 600cc sportbike.
Doesn't BrianTRice maintain the Zero Wiki page? Whomever it is, the logo is the least important element, because it is very well done as is I must say!
-
I've been known to pretend ignorance and answer, "I'm not sure, but would you take a look for me? I think the exhaust pipe fell off the other day!"

Brian has done an amazing job and has put a HUGE amount of work into the wiki. Everyone can maintain it though, is a community effort.
Technically I own and pay for the website, but I do very little to keep it up to date and accurate.
I made the logo that is currently used, but it was always a temporary thing. I never intended it as a permanent logo. Im not much of a graphic artist, so I was hoping someone with more talent would come in with a better one.

The logo as branding tells others what kind of flavor the site has.
I just don't want that to spell "electrification". Seriously, it would put me off the site - there are plenty of sites with that kind of look that spell "crazy" or "irresponsible" to me.
FWIW I am personally bothered by it because I was struck by lightning indoors while still a teenager (before working on high voltage nuclear power systems).
Here, to move the conversation forward, here's a ridiculous stab at it using an image macro (Made with https://photofunia.com/effects/retro-wave ):

Kind of reminds me of a political TV ad. ::)

I cant decide if its 1992 again.. or if I was transported to Vice City.
This is so beautifully horrible.
Thanks for the website link.
-
I keep staring at it waiting for a Tron bike to go by
-
I'll upload the first one I made weeks ago just for giggles...
-
@BrianTRice omfg i want that on a black shirt!!! That just won the interwebs...
-
Brian that made my night, the 1992 comment earlier was good but yours had me laughing out loud.

At first I was a little worried when I saw that logo but I'm glad you were just joking. ;D For some reason it reminds me of Star Search... By the way I think my logo looks like the bike is being shot by one of the Ghostbusters nuclear reactor ray guns.... :)

No logo, just some thinking out loud -
- So our problem is that we don't have access to an official zero service manual - in fact we have zero official service manuals - and our solution is one unofficial service manual. I am probably finding this funnier than I should.
- I can't help thinking of the wiki as Zarro Manooal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugzilla#Zarro_Boogs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bugzilla#Zarro_Boogs)). Since we don't really have zero manuals anymore. I mean we do now. Yes we have no bananas.
-
I know we're not using their font, but I couldn't resist.

and their other font.

I like the logic. :)

I find it funny that even having an unofficial service manual we have Zero unofficial service manuals.
In as much as I find efforts for "Zero Motorcycle Deaths" a threat to my well being.
Any Mostels in Fiddler on the Roof? Zero!
Dad jokes... I'm full of them.
