Title: Front disc malfuntion

Hi there fellow Zero drivers.

any one experienced a pronounced knocking from the front brake? Therese is nothing when breaking lightly (normal driving) but when dropping the anchor (spirited driving) (deaf and blind pedestrians, strategi dogs etc.) the knocking comes after Hald a second of breaking, and gets fast progressive worse as the speed drops and the disc heats up.

Cant find any cracks in the disc, but its rather scarry.

Post by: Killroy on June 03, 2017, 09:24:44 PM: I notice some off the brake pad and disc rubbing after braking on my 2015 SR. I'm not sure what the solution is. I wish there was a little bit more clearance and pad pull back. This is common on mountain bikes too. On a ICE motorcycle, you would probably never notice this because the noise form the ICE.

If Breaking even lightly, shortly after a hard breaking that has provoked the knocking, the knocking is still there. Leading me to believe that disc temperature is a major factor.
I Can provoke it by Breaking from as low as 60 km/h.
Any one know a method to look for "invisible" cracks in breaking discs?

The only thing I can think of that would cause a knocking sound when braking is a loose caliper bolt or loose disc fasteners. Or perhaps a defective brake pad or one that was not properly installed. Some brake pads are a little hard to install properly and require their upper edges to hook into a slot in the caliper body. Also, they all have an noise-suppressing spring that presses down on the pad assembly. Perhaps yours is missing, causing the brake pads to move around in the caliper?

Post by: Fred on June 04, 2017, 08:16:26 PM: I'm not familiar with the 2015 SR brake setup. Is it a sliding caliper with two pistons on one side? If so, sometimes this sliding mechanism can stick. You then get a creaking noise from the circular "rivets" holding the floating disc. It can happen with stuck pistons on a 4 piston caliper too, but less often.

Just checked my '16 FXS and it doesn't have a floating disc. I may be barking up the wrong tree.
