Title: 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Battery Cells
Post by: eskim06 on September 02, 2017, 05:57:59 AM
Would a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid lithium battery pack be a good cell donor for a 2012 Zero DS battery pack rebuild? It is a 270 volt 34kW LiPO that weighs 96 lbs.

If it is in good shape, it should have 5.3 kwh of power (pretty much the same as a 2012 ZF6 DS). If you can disassemble the cells and rewire them to an appropriate voltage, it could work. That is a lot of work though and can be very dangerous if you are not careful. I would not recommend it unless you really like a challenge.

Depends on what you're looking for, maximum power density or do you have access to this pack for cheap?

Price is $1000 Cdn. I can't find a decent description of this battery and the cells used in it.

That's not a bad price, but the age of the pack could be a disadvantage. Not only in lost capacity but newer batteries have a way better power density. Leaf batteries are popular for Vetrix replacements and can be bought per cell, would those fit in a 2012 Zero?

I believe 2012 Zero DS ZF6 uses a pouch style cell. I will remove my battery and disassemble it to see what I have to work with. Nearest dealer is 1300 miles from me so I am on my own. Does anyone have a schematic of the interface cable to access the bike system with a laptop? Will also need some software.
