Hi all,
I've searched the forums but I haven't found a case that seems to mirror mine so:
I have a 2014 SR with 19K miles on it. I ride 45 miles a day on average. I usually charge at work and the standard charge is from 56% at arrival, to 100% at COB eight hours later.
For the last two months my bike has decreased it's final SOC for an unknown reason. It was 98% at first but now the final SOC is regularly 91%. There are no other known issues with the bike.
I recently took it to the dealer, but they had no clue why it wouldn't charge to full. The Zero regional sales manager was there as well, but he was stumped.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
I have reset the BMS a few times to no avail.

My 2014S just started cutting off charging at 92%. Then it wakes up 24 hours later and charges to either 95 or 97%, then a day later it finishes charging to 100%. Kind of weird. It never did that before. Ever since I have owned the bike it would charge to 98% and then a day later finish charging and balancing the cells to 100%. Not any longer and I don't have a clue what is going on or what has happened to cause that change. ???

Don't worry about the SOC displayed while charging is going on, it's false! At end of charge, when you have removed the power cord and switched the bike ON, it will display the "real" SOC which may sometimes be less than 100%. Mine often shows 98 or 99%. Not sure if this is an issue. Most important is to check the real battery voltage, if in doubt. Use the Zero App and watch the voltage. If it displays 116V, then everything is OK!

Thanks hubert. I haven't used the app in a while, so I should probably give that a try. Maybe the SOC computer is just getting old. ::)

it may not be connected but just before Zero replaced my battery i was seeing the same thing, one day it was charging as normal and the next it wouldn't go past 98%, a few cycles later it wouldn't go past 96%, i sent zero the logs and they came back with the offer to replace the battery under warranty, which i was going to receive anyway from what i was told, unfortunately nothing was corrected with the old battery so i can't offer any insite

It's definitely not charging past 91%
At first I thought that maybe it was the natural degradation considering my mileage. I figured the display was showing 98% because of list capacity. Once or dropped to 91% I knew that want the case.
Another odd thing is that I can no longer set my custom mode on the app. Everytime I adjust a value it immediately returns to it's initial setting.
Very frustrating!

I have reset the BMS a few times to no avail.
Somewhere on this board I read a comment about resetting the BMS, and that this was covered in the OEM manual. I just searched the manual (possibly with the wrong search terms) and found a couple of places where it said to "reset BMS with button." What I couldn't find is an explanation of exactly where the button is. Could someone explain (detailed explanation, please, on exact location, hopefully with a picture.)
While searching this board, I also got a search result the mentioned "resetting the charger." same question as above.
Finally, what, exactly does "resetting" do? I'm guessing it's like re-booting your laptop/desktop ...

The ctrl-alt-del buttons is under the rubber bung right besides the horn.
Honk once or twice and you’ll know where to look.
The buttons hides under a dollop of dielectric grease.

I have been keeping an eye on my Zero as it charges, recently. It now bulk charges to 92%, then charges another 2% each day for the next 4 days, topping out at 98 or 99%. Using the Zero app shows 115 volts at 99% (which drops to 98% as soon as I start to ride off). Balancing of the various packs shows a 2 mV and 3 mV difference between the battery modules. The only reason that I can think of why this might be happening is that the batteries are getting a little tired and are not allowing the charger to reach the 117 V that it used to be able to do. ???

I've heard of various people that had this issue. It seems to be a slowly dying charger, it doesn't reach its final voltage anymore. Those cases I know of, the charger was replaced under warranty then.

Maybe. If I knew more about how the charger operates I might have an opinion. I can't think of what might happen to a charger that would cause it to cut off at 115 volts, instead of 117 volts. You would think that the device would just stop charging and not start fading as the batteries become almost fully charged. To me it makes more sense that the batteries are just getting tired and will no longer accept a full charge. ??? That is what happens with 12 volt LA automotive batteries, in my experience.

Richard - Any chance you can meetup with a Zero owner who has one of the 3 types of accessory chargers (DeltaQ, Elcon 2500, SCv2)? You could charge with one of those through your accessory charging port to see if you get the same results. If accessory charging works fine then your onboard charger is likely bad.

I'll leave that to my daughter and her husband. They get my bike when I get my 2018 Zero S, probably next month. Other than not charging to 100%, the bike runs great and shows a predicted range of 180 miles when first started up. :)
