Title: Possible to Disable Sport and Custom Mode ?
Post by: calamarichris on December 12, 2017, 11:13:48 PM
In the Zero SR app, is it possible to disable the Sport and Custom modes? I have a dirt-biking nephew and it might create friction in the family if I tell him flat-out no to letting him take it for a spin, and I'd prefer he thinks the bike is a wimp to him cartwheeling the bike (and perhaps also himself) down the road.

I say go for the friction. Only my brother (and presumably the shop guys) have ever ridden my bike, though several have asked. "No" is a very valuable English word. You don't owe anybody a ride.

I've got the stones to say no, but was hoping technology could keep everyone happy and frictionless.

So no disabling possible? Anyone? Anyone?

Is he familiar with Zeros?  He may not even be aware of the mulitple riding modes unless you point them out to him...

Just put it in Eco before you hand it over and don't say anything.

Or even better - just “detune” the settings in custom mode...

Thanks for the responses. I figured I'd water down the Custom Mode. So it's not possible to disable access to the Sport Mode?

Not that I'm aware of.  The other option is to get some opaque electrical tape and cover up the word "Mode" on the right handlebar switch...

Eco and Sport modes can be reprogrammed but the procedure is not meant for the owner to perform.

It may be better to simply educate your fellow rider that Sport mode is fine to try around the parking lot when going in a straight line but that for anything more than that you'd like them to respect your wishes as the owner of the $10k+ vehicle that they just ride it in Eco mode for anything more than a lap around the parking lot.

Ah, the ol' Moscow Highlighter trick... that'll work.

Guess I have my answer, and the answer is no. I have no problem telling him "no."

If you really wanted to let him ride, I imagine that you could disable the mode switch with a bit of electrical tape over the contact that could be easily removed after he leaves.

Really?!?!

I'd pay good money to reprogram sport mode for 100% regen.
That way I don't have to waste my custom mode just to have a "Sport+decent regen" mode and can finally have a half-way setting.

Me, too.  Is someone offering this as a service?
