Title: Lightning Open House
Post by: oobflyer on July 11, 2019, 10:01:31 AM
I'm planning to go to the open house on the 27th (7-27-2019).
I asked the question via Facebook, "Will there be test-rides at the open house event?"
Answer, "Test-rides will be scheduled later".

But, at least we can see the new bike and at hopefully sit on the thing.

And you also get to see "cool stuff from Cycle Gear". And "boosted electric skateboards".  ::)

How about just a demo-ride (where your factory person rides it a bit)? So far no one has seen one move in person. Show it works! ;-)

I saw a guy push a Strike around at Corbin’s last week.

This event is on the wrong coast for me. :(

Same here. The open house is a great idea for riders who live locally. I wonder how many potential buyers are within riding distance of the event? Probably not enough to keep Lightning in business. They should be inviting reporters and letting them have test rides. H-D has done this already with the Live Wire. https://www.asphaltandrubber.com/reviews/harley-davidson-livewire-gone-riding-review/

^ yeah, agreed.  Asphalt and Rubber should be there.  Motorcycle Magazine should be there.  I get that it's a boutique kinda company, but they want to move into the mass-production world so they'll need all the marketing they can get.

Again, anyone who goes.. please shoot video!!

How were the press rides? What did it sound like. Someone upload video. Looking forward to those press reports later today.

I rode my Zero 90 miles to the Lightning Open House - I walked right up to Richard Hatfield and told him that I had $10K ready to put down on a Carbon Strike, but that I wanted to sit on it first and test-ride it first. He (very nicely) said that he might be able to arrange a chance for me to sit on the Strike, but the three Strikes on display at the Open House were actually all reserved and he couldn't let me test-ride someone else's bike. Understandable.

The event was fun - I got to ride an electric skateboard, the food was good. But it seemed strange. The whole thing felt like a 'show and tell', and nothing like a sales pitch. I never felt that they cared if anyone was interested in buying one of their bikes.
Maybe they are trying (too) hard to avoid seeming pushy? Or maybe they already have more reservations than they can handle?
They had a slide-show presentation - Richard talked about the history of the company - nothing new.
Someone asked the question about delivery time - Richard answered, "About 90 days, but we're working on shortening the wait time".

I hung around until it was over, hoping to at least sit on the bike to see how it feels - how it might fit me. But I didn't see Richard anywhere... I finally gave up and left.

A little disappointed for sure - no new info, no specs, no chance to sit on the bike. If you wanted to go, but couldn't make it - you didn't miss anything. I'm less enthusiastic about the Strike now than I was before! I think I'll just hold onto my $10K for now and see what happens.

I said it before in a similar thread. I was really excited when I read the initial press releases on the Strike. Now, what 6 months or so later and I've had an opportunity to test ride the Zero SR/F which was announced around the same time, the press has gotten to ride the LiveWire, and yet no confirmed real test rides of any of the Strike models (other than reports of taking it for a spin around the block).

I live close to Lightning yet I chose not to attend their open house. After reading reviews and impressions of the event, I'm glad I didn't brave the heat to attend. Unfortunately this really, really feels like the Skully fiasco all over again.

I honestly hope I'm wrong and Lightning somehow gets it together, gets a killer bike onto the market at a killer price (albeit with at least traction control and ABS) but my gut tells me it won't happen. :(

So the three bikes on display are actually reserved and waiting to be picked up or delivered. Yet deliveries are 90 days away????

That can't be right.  The blue bike (with the gopro mount) is the prototype they've been using to test things on.  If the white and yellow ones are completed, surely that means they'd be going out to their owners soon.  :o Right?  I would have thought they'd keep those as demo bikes, to show off the colors and also give people a chance to ride them.  Otherwise.. what is there to ride?

The Open House was a non-event....

The free food from the Mexican food catering truck was another story....  Excellent....

There was a slide show and some revving of bikes on stands, but no actual riding on the street, or in the parking lot, either by Lightning personnel or journalists or potential customers.

The presentation was a joke. Contained no useful information.

They really need to hire and retain a marketing person.

Remember the slide about Millenials and how they're building a company that appeals to them?
