Title: Ahhhhhhhh Heated Grips
Post by: vinceherman on August 26, 2019, 10:45:39 PM
My ride to work today was on the chilly side.  Not cold, certainly, but chilly.
It was the second ride wearing my Zero leather jacket and it kept my body warm.
And the heated hand grips kept my hands nice and toasty.

I still like electrically heated gloves over heated grips. They do a better job keeping all portions of your hands warm and can be switched from bike to bike. And if you buy the battery-powered type you can even use them when off your bike.  :)

The heated grips felt like a joke to me. Kind of keep your palms warm, but the back of your hands (the part that suffers the worst) don't feel any better.

Literally all heated grips are like that. Buy heated glove liners if you want the best heating option (which is less convenient).

Compared to the heated grips on my BMW R 1200 GS these are nice that they have more than 2 positions (3 that is). But then postion 2 is a lot warmer than position 3 feels on the Zero. So not that impressed.

I wear heated gloves also and they also aren't that hot but the combination is great. Only heated grips won't help with fingertips.

It was 35f when I left today.  I did put hand warmers in the knuckle pockets on my cold weather gloves.
My hands were quite comfy.

I put these handlebar muffs (https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/oxford-super-handlebar-muffs) on my FXS last week and have been testing them this week. So far so good, but my rides have been at 2-4° C. We'll see how they work out when the temp drops below freezing.

When it get's really cold, I use a combination of handlebar muffs and heated grips.  This combination works very well for me.  Heated glove liners are nice, but I don't want to be tethered by any cables and don't want to have to constantly charge or replace batteries.
