Title: 2021 DSR - BMS cover plug falls off?
Post by: Artemis on February 21, 2021, 04:55:11 AM
Hello guys,

I newly registered because I finally got my 2021 Zero DSR. I have read a lot on this forum already, but this is my first time posting because I have a small problem.

I was cleaning my bike after today's ride, and the black "BMS cover plug" (behind the front wheel), which covers the LED indicators and reset buttons of the BMS, just fell off at the slightest touch. I am actually surprised it stayed on while riding. I can put the cover plug back in, and it sticks a little bit to the grease, but there is no "click" or anything which would keep it in place properly.

Is this normal? Has anyone lost their BMS cover plug or done anything to attach it more securely?

Thanks for your help. As long as there are no bigger issues I am very happy with my DSR  ;D

Yeah it's very easy to remove, no idea why they didn't make the fit more snug. If you're worried about it falling off you could try putting some tape over it, it's not something you should need access to often.

Okay, yeah I guess I will put some tape over. I thought maybe the cover was faulty, but doesn't seem to be the case :) Thanks

I had the same problem with my Zero S.

The cap got lost while riding. I made a 3D model as a replacement. https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=10742 (https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=10742)
Best way is tape tho.

Tap also helps sealing the plug. On the S-platform bikes, the BMS plug is directly in the spray from the front tire, and personally, I don't trust it really being waterproof.

Mine has never had a cap, as far as I know.

I have never had a problem with my SR, but when I got a neglected 2014 S, the cap seemed loose, then got lost on a ride.
I ordered some new ones and they felt the same. While playing with it, trying for a better fit, I discovered that there is in fact
sort of a click fit. I pressed in the center and it more or less went into place. Felt secure and haven't had a problem with it for
most of the last year. Could be worth a shot.
