Title: Sugar battery
Post by: trikester on February 11, 2014, 12:25:53 AM
Here is another potential future energy storage battery that uses sugar as the storage medium just like most living things. High capacity, cheap, organic, and non-hazardous.

I think battery may be a misnomer - this is like a fuel cell.

When they talk about density, I assume they're talking about volumetric density (where hydrogen is fantastically weak) and not gravimetric density (where hydrogen is fantastically strong).

I wonder what kind of power they can extract from this type of fuel cell. A low power fuel cell could still be useful for certain applications, but it should at least be able to provide enough power for highway cruise (10 kW bike, 20 kW car).
