Title: Motor amplifier
Post by: dvdwin on April 23, 2016, 09:37:15 AM
Does anyone know of a way to amplify the sound of the electric motor while accelerating or maintaining speed?

Drill holes in the face plates ie. sides of the motor!

Once you drill those holes if you pour in some sand and small rocks that should start making plenty of noise.

In all seriousness though, enjoy the silence. It's such a nice dichotomy to other bikes.

You could make a poor right angle drive for the motor and call the gear whine a feature.  That's what harley did with the livewire...

Run full knobbies. Plenty of noise!

Microphone at the motor, amplifier, speakers where you want them.  In your ear, or for the public, what are you looking for?

The chain/sprockets kit is VERY effective at adding noise to the FX.  In our quiet neighborhood, you can hear the bike coming from a couple hundred yards away.

I just had a funny thought reading that...  My CR500 has knobbies, and I was just looking up tires for it. So I read that, and went "oh yeah, knobbies are going to be loud"....

then I remembered its on the CR, not the zero... so tire noise is not important. the whole thing is loud.

I should add to this, that the chain noise is definitely correlated with speed, and never really gets LOUD.  When riding under 25 MPH (on back yard trails for example), the noise is very subtle and definitely not enough to upset any neighbors.  I know a lot of people are buying FX's for the quiet factor (myself included), and I didn't want to give the impression that it won't deliver on that promise.
