Title: which connector?
Post by: Edipo76 on March 08, 2017, 03:51:13 PM
Hello to all.
I bought a SBS75X Anderson connector to charge my bike Zero FX 2015. But the connector is not compatible, I include photos. Where do I find the compatible connector? Thank you

The SR/S/DS etc use an Anderson SBS75XBRN connector and I assume the FX would be the same - in your photo it certainly looks like an SBS75XBRN.

yes, I confirm that I have the brown on the bike and on the other hand I bought the black. But then from brown to black, in addition to changing the voltage from 80 to 96, also changes the shape?
Thank you

The black version is slightly different and is specified for lower voltage as you said. I believe you can modify it very slightly so that it will fit if you're happy with that. Probably just removing those two extra prongs at the bottom of the photo.

just received today my "brown" connector from Mouser. It fits fine. Now I have to think about what to attach to the connector. Charger, electric barbecue....

there is a problem, as andersonpower.com meet me so:

Zero Motorcyles makes a custom part for the SBS75X connector you have.
So the APP part(s) I  listed will not work correctly.
You must go back to Zero Motorcyles to get the correct product.

and then as I procure this connector? the cheapest accessory zero is what costs 280 €

there is no other way to obtain it? you can change the standard connector?

You can buy all the parts including the signal pins but you also need the proper crimper and so forth. There's a reason why it costs $250.! Here is one of the ones I made for using two Delta Quiq chargers at once.

What crimper, gauge, and terminals do you recommend?

I hope an inadequate spec on the wiki didn't waste the OP's money. "Brown" probably wasn't written down as carefully as it could have been.

Hello,
I've already bought the brown from mouser, it should arrive next week.
It has, however, written a clerk mouser, that black and brown connector are physically the same, so not even the brown will be fine.
Can anyone confirm? You are able to buy somewhere a compatible connector to what I put in the first photo of this post?
Thank you

I know for sure that Hollywood Electrics and DigiNow have no problem keeping a stock of these. At least for the S/DS models. I'm confused now...

Yeah, just wait about 12 hours, I can get hands on it and its optional accessories.

Just to be clear, working with these connectors does require some finesse that is not obvious from the official instructions (but do read those, they just didn't "click" for me until those crazy charger guys showed me how they assemble them). The short of it is to mind how those prongs work, and how to make and insert the pins properly so everything locks into place and the leads mate when joining connectors.

The retaining prongs don't really work until you insert crimped cables into them, which is its own minor skill.

I think what I'm saying is: the plug won't connect unless cables are inserted, because the prongs are meant to be pushed down by the cables to retain them securely.

Yes, this is exactly what I experienced, when I tried to "connect" the empty brown shell. It does not fit. Once the cables soldered inside the plugs and those installed until they "click", it will mate easily the Zero's connector. The force needed to insert and extract the connector is also well done so as to ensure good stability and not excessive muscle power.

Here is the picture.

Empty connector, the pins, mounted connector with wires and optional handle with cable clamp (the black part)

then it is identically: you bought it from mouser? I wrote him and said that black is equal to brown. Then I wrote to anderson.com and said that the zero connector is customized. And instead they both wrong? Just as well, much better :-)

Yes, here are the part numbers:
879-SBS75XBRN
SBS75G HOUSING ONLY

879-1339G5
SBS50 #8 AWG

879-PSBS75XCLP2
SBS75x CABLE CLAMP

the black housing has some different notches or so, kinda "voltage encoding". and there is nothing "zero specific".

uhm... I bought a pair of 879-SBS75XBRN-BK, then I complete three blacks SBS75X connectors. You say you might be missing something in order to connect to the bike?

also it came to me: he is perfect!
the only thing is that I've taken only the outer shells, but I have the inside of blacks connectors, at least the internal parts will be compatible, right?

The different colors are all keyed a little different. This is to prevent the wrong voltages from accidentally being connected. This would be present in a warehouse or something where there may be multiple vehicles that use different voltages. You could disassemble the brown connector on the bike and swap it with a different color housing. As long as the color is the same, they are compatible.

or cut away the notches, 2 pieces ont the black housing and one on the brown (bike) housing.

I realize this is an old thread but it's 1st one I saw that compared the two. I also bought the black which is keyed differently. This comparison image and part number above are super helpful. Thank you!
