Title: Larger CA EV rebates coming?
Post by: Richard230 on June 30, 2017, 04:08:50 AM
According to an article in the business section of my newspaper today, there is a proposed bill floating around the CA legislature that would add $3 billion (to be taken from other areas of the State budget) to California's current Zero emission rebate program. The article suggested that the rebate would be set to double the current $7,500 Federal EV rebate.

There was no discussion regarding the possibility that the Republican Federal budget to be adopted later this year might just eliminate the entire federal rebate.  There was naturally no mention of electric motorcycles in the article - just Chevy Bolts and Teslas.

However, the article did mention that the rebates would likely be based upon the applicant's income.  The more income you have the less of a rebate you would get. The article stated that: "A study last year by two UC Berkeley-trained researchers of nearly 100,000 rebates found that more than 80% of the checks went to Californians reporting  an income greater than $100,000. The money went primarily into communities with few black and Latino residents."

The Clean Vehicle Rebate Project has issued 115,000 rebates worth $295 million to buyers of battery-powered vehicles since 2010.

Zero-emission vehicles make up less than 2% of vehicle sales in California each year.
