Title: 2020 Zero SR/F press reviews
Post by: Richard230 on February 26, 2019, 01:28:34 AM
Just so detailed press riding reviews don't get lost in the 27+ page SR/F comment thread, I thought I would start a specific thread where detailed press riding, road test and performance reviews can be found.  Since the one published today by Motorcycle.com is so informative, I thought it would make a good first start for this thread:

Wired offers puff-piece language coupled with some insight into the design iterations of the bike and a helpful skeletal photo:

Well, that skeletal photo's file name includes "FirstProto" as part of the name, so it's probably not 100% right : - )

"not 100% right" describes every piece of information I've ever been handed. So it's par for the course.

Asphalt & Rubber has a pretty LOUSY review filled with inaccuracies.  I used to like that site, but lately all they do is piss me off.

Here is some more "official" information from Zero regarding the SR/F.  I note that the smart phone connectivity system is only offered for two years without charge.  After that, I wonder what will be the cost?  Also. there is a mention that the app will let you know when your bike needs a firmware update (no big surprise there), but does not specifically mention that the update will be free and can be accomplished at home, via an internet download. Naturally, there is also no mention of any required motor "commissioning" that will need to be accomplished at your franchised dealer:  https://electricmotorcycles.news/zero-motorcycles-launches-new-streetfighter-zero-sr-f/

Another thing that I noticed in the article referenced above is all of the information that the bike keeps track of. It apparently knows just about everything that you do when riding, including your speeds and destinations. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the Cyber III operating system was developed by a consultant and not done in-house. Maybe by the Cybermen.    ;D  So it does sound like if you ever get in an accident, personal injury lawyers will have a field day with the information contained in the bike's computer system.  While it does apparently have a way to secure your privacy, I bet the Israelis can break into it.   ;)

One more comment:  As you know the SR/F has the Bosch cornering ABS system that will automatically cut braking power when braking in a corner so that the brakes will not lock up when leaned over.  When BMW first offered this feature last year they were charging almost $500 for the firmware download that would add this system to their motorcycles' ABS.   :o

Here is a review by The Verge:  https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/25/18240230/zero-new-electric-motorcycle-electric-app-battery-speed-release-date

And one by Web Bike World:  https://www.webbikeworld.com/heres-the-2020-zero-sr-f-electric-motorcycle/

The press is really jumping on the Zero SR/F bandwagon - at least until the next hot thing comes along.   ;)

Jalopnik has a blurb up, gets the charging speed wrong in the title:
https://jalopnik.com/the-zero-sr-f-new-electric-motorcycle-can-charge-150-mi-1832878738

Edit: My mistake. The 12 kW charging option does indeed charge at 150 city miles per hour. Kind of crazy.

Here is a SR/F European launch article, filmed at Ecomobiel in Antwerp. It includes a couple of walk-around videos, along with sales numbers for the 7 largest Zero dealers in the EU.  Personally, they can keep the "possum scraper" attached to the rear tire.  I see a (relatively) big market for a "tail tidy" for this bike.   ;)

Alan Stewart just posted this interesting article regarding how the design of the SR/F was developed.  I thought it would be worthwhile to also post it here so it would be easily located in the future:  https://www.wired.com/story/zero-srf-electric-motorcycle-photos-specs-design/
