Installing a J1772 in the wing in a Zero tank...?
« on: April 16, 2021, 05:33:50 AM »

So I am replacing my tank for aesthetics - I have a yellow 2014 tank and I like yellow better than black.

I realized tanks have these wings on the right and left that are empty.  So I have this idea of using this space!  I'm trying to figure out how to hide a tool box and a J1772 port there.

But I realize to be safe there needs to be a transfer switch or disconnect.  My initial plan was to just use the plug as a disconnect... Then I was thinking of taxing an Arduino to operate some relays...
But then I realized there's things like https://www.donrowe.com/PowerMax-PMTS-30-Automatic-Transfer-Switch-p/pmts-30.htm
But I don't know if it'd work since the power is usually off?

Anyone have any suggestions?

Did you notice the spec of "120 VAC" ?  J-1772 is 240 VAC.

Why do you need a transfer switch anyway?  I don't even have one in my RV.

Yes.  And then I looked at the actual PDF and it says 240.

I don't want to plug two things in to use the J1772?

Don't be so lazy!  Every time I use a J-1772, it takes me several minutes to get things set up! I need to plug in both ends of two chargers plus the OBC  as well as the J-1772.

Why add more steps?
