I have made a lot of progress on this and we are ready to start production of several different types of cable all of which will work for 2011 and newer. They have been tested and work well on 2011, 2012, and 2013 year model bikes, and will also work for the 2014 bike. I'll be setting up a KickStarter project for it to help us get going. I hope you guys will be interested in the cables so we can get up enough funds to get the parts we need to build them.

See more photos as I update progress here.

Smart Dongle & Thank you in source code displayed to all future users. This cable will allow you to connect any Zero Motorcycle to any computer via Bluetooth and the OBDII port, no USB cables required! You can simply plug it in and forget it with no cables to hang loose. It has all the functionality of the Smart Cable (#9) but without the ability to connect via USB. The primary benefit of this dongle is the ease of use and lack of connecting cables. If your computer does not have bluetooth installed you can pick up a bluetooth USB for about $10 at most electronics stores.

These cables which are flashing the bike.

Are these flashing the MBB on the 2011 models, or have you found a way to flash the Sevcon controllers on the 2012 onwards bikes without using the IXAAT dongle?

If it works, i'll take #8 (it seems quite cheap actually), but how do you get more power out of the standard components?

So the ones that flash the bike won't be cables, you just plug it and and you are done. Thats why I call it a dongle. If you think there is a better name for it, let me know and we will consider it ;)

The smart cable will also have the ability to flash the bike as it contains ALL of the dongle codes on its micro controller as well.

The data will be flashed to the MBB on the 2011 and on 2012 or newer models it will flash the MBB as well as various settings in the Sevcon via the MBB. I may add the can protocol as well, but for right now I don't see a need for it.

Also, we have decided to include bluetooth in the smart cable as it has proven reliable in testing and quite handy. This means there will also be a Bluetooth Only version of the smart cable, perhaps to be called the bluetooth smart dongle.

If it works, i'll take #8 (it seems quite cheap actually), but how do you get more power out of the standard components?
Zero's factory settings are very conservative compared to what the components are actually capable of. Over time with racing, canyon riding, long commutes through the mountains and discussing things with Terry, Harlan, Jeremiah and other crazies like myself, I have been able to come up with reliable and safe profiles for various kinds of riding.

Also, I have changed the original post so #8 is now #9 since I added in the smart bluetooth dongle.

I would also consider any requests the initial backers had if they wanted something specific. I could even create a custom profile named after a backer if they so desired with custom settings.

And keeping it affordable is the goal, as a racer, I know that every penny counts.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

When the Kickstarter goes live, then I WILL pledge, the #9 looks like it would astisfy my (inner?) nerd... :)

Would you consider supporting the connection to the BMS as well?

Bluetooth would be excellent, we could write our own apps for our Zero's for instance.

This sounds good to me (#9, though would likely only choose an efficiency profile). I'm a bit of a tinkerer and command line / data junkie, and am not scared of firmware modifications as long as there is a way to snapshot/restore.

All of the cables as well as the bluetooth dongle support BMS communication.

Thank you for your question about it, I hope there are more like this so I can get everyone's feed back and tweak things in case there anything we missed overlooked, or didn't think of.

Hey Brian, currently we can reset to factory for all bikes, and are currently working with an onboard memory integration to store profiles and other data, like real time data logging.

This would actually be really good for me as a racer because I could decide on a profile I liked for a specific track and easily save or flash it. If you think this would be a value for you, I will make sure it is one of the things we get done.

Thanks again for your feedback, I hope you will enjoy it, I started just tinkering too. You can see some of my crazy mods on my facebook albums from as far back as 2011.

Would it be possible to use the bluetooth device #8 as a plug and ride device. That is have it connected while riding?

If so, are there any plans for data logging?

I have to test the current design on a stock 2013, mine is heavily modified and the ODBII port is moved to the tank area, but I expect the answer is yes. For a 2012 & 2011 the answer is definitely yes. If we need to we will just have to redesign the dongle so it works for all bikes, but that's why we are doing the kick starter ;)

Also, before we launch the kick starter I am working on 2 more things based off of the responses from everyone here and on facebook.

1) Data logging for the smart board
2) Basic Bluetooth Dongle. Like the basic cable but Bluetooth.

Just released the base version of our chrome app for communicating with bikes. This app is not yet specific to any bikes but rather our own serial terminal. It will work with Mac, PC, and Linux. It will also be good for using with any of our cables, though we will be releasing a more full featured version with Zero specific code to interact with our smart cables.

Everything should be all ready to go, but it never hurts to have some additional testing. I sent you a PM about the details.
