Side case rack kit installation instructions
« on: November 07, 2015, 01:34:54 PM »

Guys,

Does anyone have a copy of the instructions ? My kit didn't have one included, and it's a
puzzle to solve.

P.S. Sent an e-mail to the dealer, but I'm not sure when they will get back to me. Would like
to complete the installation this weekend.

I have a very old set (2013, first revision when they would sell to non-fleet customers) which I can forward privately.

Thank you! That should at least get me started! :)

I don't see an attachment to this thread... I have the same side case kit with no instructions.  Called the dealer, but they claim instructions do not exist (remind me what they did for me with that $150 in mark up again?).
I've emailed Zero direct, awaiting a reply..
if someone has a set of instructions though.. please send me a copy and/or post them.

thanks

For a 14 SR, instructions I received early this year with my top box are attached (3 PDF's).
If the attachments didn't make it, please e-mail me at: 2014ZeroSR@gmail.com.

Please excuse my previous goof.
I provided the incorrect instructions.
This time it will be for the 'Side Case Kit Install'
It's seven (7) PDF's, so it'll be 2 posts as only 4 attachments per post are allowed.

Thanks! Which makes sense to install first, top box rack kit or side case rack it?  I've ordered both.

Do the top box 1st. That way you skip installing 2 pieces under the seat that the top box already has.

Here's some other thoughts ----
~~~~~
Know this – Each storage compartment will come with 2 keys. 6 total = 2 for the top and 2 for each side bag.
Unless you're very lucky, the keys will be different for the top and sides. Nothing like trying a key in the top and discovering it to be for the side time and time again. As my damaged SR was to have the top and sides replaced due to crash damage, I called Zero about 3 months ago and asked if it was possible to have the top and sides sent out with all locks keyed the same. Zero's short answer – No. For $1k for the top and sides, shouldn't that be reality and not a head scratch-er? As I still had the original boxes and paperwork, I looked to see if there were any indication(s) of a key code(s) – Nope...
~~~~~
Box(s) receipt – I remember all of mine had been resealed. Likely Zero, upon receipt, inspect all and then reseals.
~~~~~
Install - I did it with basic hand tools (nothing special).
I remember the following:
[1] Rear turn signals were moved. There was just enough wire.
[2] Instructions – Recommendation, before executing the next step, get your parts ready for that step.
[3] Instructions were just OK.
~~~~~
Observation after the top/sides were installed – brake/tail light almost disappears.
Once top/sides are installed, there's lots of matte black back there.
What to do for more brake/tail light visibility when stopping? After the install, I remember thinking, the rear lens assembly almost disappears with the new top/sides. I'll always wonder if this issue was a contributing factor to my Aug 2015 accident.
~~~~~
Solutions for increased rear view visibility:
[1] Givi – Do they offer something for the MonoLock storage offerings? Nothing that I can find on the Givi USA site for the 34L box (E340NA)
[2] GearBrake might be a solution. I had one prior to the accident but was not successful in getting it set up correctly. So I removed it expecting to try another day. This module now sits on my kitchen table awaiting the return of my repaired bike. Type in 'GearBrake' in this forum and it should pop right up. Here's a link whch might help – http://motoelectro.com.au/very-cool-device-for-ebike-owners/.  nigezero posted this on thread  0% regen, 100% brake regen dated June 15, 2015.
[3]  Add something yourself. I was thinking - one 6in LED stop/taillight on the rear of each side bag.
Is it just me or is the side rack mount a pain in the butt to install? I'm about to pull what hair I have left out. My allen head screw is about stripped, my knuckles hurt, and I can't get one of the rear blinkers off and I'm not even halfway done.
It is not easy. Usually the brackets that mount to the inside of the footpegs gives the most trouble, but the tail rewire is also not easy.
For reference, what details/extras have been described well are collected on the wiki: http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Zero_Aftermarket#Side_Rack
But I see that advice here should be integrated, so I'll do that shortly.
