2015 Zero SR storage in tank area
« on: July 11, 2015, 02:00:14 PM »

Zero, on my 2015 SR, why did you put such a small storage option in the tank area when it clearly could be the size of a power tank module.
I would love a lockable, non-removable, larger storage area in the tank. If I build one myself (from carbon fibre or fibreglass, or even a 3D printer) would it void my warranty? I was thinking of cutting out the original small plastic recess and attaching a new inner to it that was a larger size. Then make a hard top cover that can be locked using the current lock in place now.

I should add that I already have a top box, and my wife (pillion passenger) and I use the bike as much as we can instead of the car. I need as much storage as I can get.

That tank area does include power electronics around the storage bin.

There are some threads about people creating lockable hard lids for the storage area, but none have apparently reached the point of small batch manufacturing. One project by DigiNow concerns putting an L2 charger in there. Stay tuned?

I don't think replacing the bin per se would void your warranty, but probably once you cut into the powered area it might. Try lifting the cowling off to see what I mean. You'd want to keep that weather protected for sure.

I have removed the tank cover to have a look under it. Took some measurements so I know how big a container I can make. There is plenty of room to have a bigger storage area there. I want to store all my wet weather gear, gloves and charge cable in there with room for other things as well.

Ah, you're up to the task, then. Others will also find this appealing, so let us know how it goes. :)

And if you want to make more of them... :)

Cheers
