Selling parts/whole broken 2010 DS
« on: May 28, 2015, 05:45:21 AM »

My 2010 DS just died again a few days ago. Seems that the battery, which was replaced about a year ago, is perfectly fine (it turns on with no problems and reports a full charge). But nothing happens when you turn the throttle. At one point it made a nasty scraping sound when the throttle was turned, but now absolutely nothing. I don't use the bike enough to justify another possible $1000 repair. I'm wondering how much I should expect to get for a bike that's not working. It had just over 1000 miles, wasn't used very much, and like I said, the battery is still fine (and that's probably the most expensive part of the bike). It may even be an easy repair, I just don't want to deal with this bike anymore. Any ideas or offers? I live in Santa Cruz, CA

The early throttles had issues.  Perhaps all your bike needs is a new throttle assembly.  ??? The one on my 2012 Zero started stalling while waiting at stop lights and seemed to get worse as the miles piled up (to 300 miles).  It was replaced by Zero and I never had another stalling problem after that.

The Nasty scraping sound sounds like a motor issue. ( had it once before )
Put a volt meter across the motor terminals and wick the throttle to see if you are getting an increasing voltage to the motor. This may help to at least identify the problem.

Speaking of 2010 Zero models, I just found a paper copy of the 2010 owner's manual in my library that I didn't know I had.  If anyone needs it send me a PM and your mailing address.

Your description sounds like the same problem I have right now.  You need to check the status led on the speed controller.  The speed controller is below the battery charger, the status led is at the right rear corner.  After the key is turned on, you should hear one beep, the contactor will energize and the status led on the controller should flash green once then turn on solid green.  If it flashes red, you have an error condition.  If it does not do anything and you can hear the contactor energize, the controller is not powering up properly.  Try tapping on the right rear side with a soft hammer with the key on to get the led to turn on.

Thanks for all the help. As I said, I don't use the motorcycle enough or have time to fix it. I just posted it for sale on Craigslist, if anybody is interested.
