Lost all regen
« on: October 24, 2016, 11:16:07 PM »

This morning I started riding in Sport mode, but then switched to Custom when I hit some traffic. My custom is configured to do maximum regen,
so I don't have to use brakes much while crawling through jams. Well, this time the bike would just cruise in neutral, and wouldn't slow down.
I figured maybe settings somehow got reset, and switched to Eco. Well, it appeared that Eco isn't doing any regen either. While at the traffic
light I switched "ignition" off/on, but still no regen.

This hasn't happened before. I know dealer upgraded my firmware just a week ago, so perhaps it's a fallout from that. Anyone had a similar issue before ?

I only have that issue when my battery pack is fully charged.  The regen will not activate until the pack drops below 98%.

There has been some flakiness in tracking the state of charge too. I would go for 3-4 miles, and it would still show 100%, but then it would drop rapidly to 96%.
This morning though I got it down to 90%, and it would still not regen.

My 2014 S hits 99% after about 3 miles and 98% after 6 miles, on level ground and traveling about 35 mph.  I have no idea what your issue is but it does sound like a glitch in the programming.   ???

Yeah, certainly the charge tracking has changed after the software update. I don't quite get how the loss of regen got triggered though...

I have seen the regen issue happen on my 2014 Zero S before but only if I started in Custom mode.  Sometimes switching to sport or eco would fix it.....if not, most of the time it could be fixed by turning the bike off and then back on but sometimes it wouldn't correct itself until after a recharge.

This particular thing happens on my 2016 DSR regularly.

For reference, you have a 2014 DS as I recall.

I'm reminded that state of charge is necessarily software-defined: there's no "real world measurement" that confirms it other than discharging fully. All direct measurements are about current, voltage, temperature, and integrals/projections/etc. So, maybe it'd help us to say "charge estimation" vs "charge tracking".

So guys, check this out. Before the return trip today I got the phone out, and connected to the bike to confirm the Custom settings. Didn't change anything, just synced up on the state. After that all regen was working fine! Totally stinks like software issues.

That's right, '14 DS. Interesting thing is it didn't happen before the software upgrade. The bike hasn't been touched by a dealer since 2014, so I noticed right away as it started to act differently :)

This sometimes happens to me if I unplug the bike from the wall socket and turn it on before the digits on the dash dissapear (Zero S 2014). The solution in that case: turn the bike off, wait for a few seconds until no information is shown in the dash and turn it on again. Suppose this has to do with some capacitors that need some time to discharge.

I updated the firmware but the behaviour before and after are the same.

FWIW, I lost all regen on my 2014 once. Turned out I had knocked out the rear plug to the brake light  that sits just above the motor which triggers the regen

Maybe it's worth to inform if there's a firmware upgrade for the bike?
