Belt replacement procedure

In the Wiki, the procedure for belt replacement include opening the rear wheel bolt, and sliding the wheel forward, or removing the wheel altogether.

I don't think it is necessary to do that. Just loosen the swingarm bolts and slide the swingarm a bit to the back to provide an opening for inserting the new belt. There is usually no prior belt stopping you because it's no longer there (reason for installing a new one [emoji3] ).

It is highly unlikely the new belt will be at the correct tension if you don't adjust the back wheel. So moving it forwards seems no big deal. Also the belt may be old with broken teeth but still in one piece, the instructions work for all cases.

Replacing the belt when it's not broken, does require loosening the wheel. Otherwise, not essential, only for tension adjusting as been said.

I was stuck without the correct tool for the wheel loosening. Had I known it was not essential, I would have saved a lot of time and headache...

I know that there are shortcuts to allow a fairly rapid replacement.
A couple years ago, someone showed up at Laguna Seca for the
ReFuel event with the LONG gearing. It was too much for the Zero.
Harlan hooked him up with new belt and standard gearing. Of course
the wheel had to come off to swap the gear, but, they were able to
slip the belt through the front by removing swing arm bolt and slipping
belt between. Unfortunately, I didn't pay enough attention to provide
any better information.
